Ok, there's a big difference between a little trim and completely shorn.
There's a huge difference between just a little powder on the nose and complete Jezebel.
There's a huge difference between only functional jewelry and anything goes, such as body piercings.

if a woman's hair is as short as a man's it's shorn.

I think shorn means shaved, like bald.
Yes, I guess piercings include ears, but I don't have those pierced either, so there!
