To be quite honest, I have only seen this once or twice, but it sure does stick in my mind! Permission to leave was directly (inversely) proportional to how much money you brought in to the local church. Meaning, the more you brought in, the less likely you were to receive permission.

I can't see even living in the same STATE for 32 years. LOL Seriously, I think it is actually a good thing for their to be some horizontal movement among saints as to what churches they attend. At least a few times in a lifetime to keep the spiritual equivalent of 'inbreeding' from getting hold.

Yes, I always find it humorous when people have issues with every church they go to, it seems like after a while they would stop and look inward.
That being said, I am well aware that there are some very abusive and dysfunctional churches out there. Generally it seems like the more problems a church has, the harder they try to hold on to people.
My dad has always said, "if you don't feel like you are getting what you need from this church, run, don't walk, to a church that can help you."
Oh, and I have been in three churches in my life, if I were still married it would be a much higher number. My ex-husband was one of those "dissatisfied" people.

You are in a interesting place. You have a great pastor and great support group it seems. If I still lived in Knoxville, TN then I would be going to the same church I had went to for 20 years. But it is an uncommon thing to have a pastor you trust with every aspect of your life. Maybe it is the southern comfort we feel with these men and their families. Not sure. That church in TN I was talking about is more of a tight conservative standard church, at least preaching wise, and I am contrary to that, but there is no other church I would go to there. But I know people that have jumped from one assembly to another for various reasons, but I do not have a problem with cause it does not affect me.
