Trusting God takes Courage

Trusting God takes Courage

Jos 1:9 Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God [is] with thee whithersoever thou goest.

Trusting God takes courage. It really does. We humans were designed with the capability to reason. To think. To work out our own problems. We were designed to, as Clint Eastwood said, "adapt, improvise, overcome". But then comes the time when all we can do is trust our Creator.

In times like that, we are tempted to say, "Are you sure about that, God?" Do you think God gets angry when we have the audacity to question Him? I don't think so. He designed us the way we are. He designed us to stand on our own two feet and work out our problems ourselves. But sometime, we just can't. Its then that we can only muster enough courage to trust Him.

When God told Moses to lead the Children of Israel out of Eygpt into a hot, forbidding wilderness, Moses answered, "Are you sure about that, God?" After alot iof prodding, Moses did the only thing He could do. He trusted. He found the courage to do what God asked Him to do. That took courage.

When Elisha told the leprous Naaman to go and dip himself 7 times in the muddy waters of the Jordan River, he balked, "Are you sure about that, God?". But, he found the courage to trust God. It takes courage to trust the Unseen. If you don't think so, try walking up to a rank stranger and ask them to hold your credit cards or checkbook for one week. Go ahead. Be courageous. Nah, don't do that, beacuse that makes about as much sense as dipping yourself in a muddy river 7 times.

But, thats just it. Trusting God doesn't make sense either sometimes. It didn't make sense for Jesus to tell Peter to step out of a nice warm and dry boat to walk on water. But Peter courageously trusted the Voice of the Lord. His desire to walk with Jesus outweighed his need for the safety of the boat. And thats where courage comes in. When our desire to walk with, or to please and trust our Master outweighs our commonsense, that we have found the courage it takes to trust God. Oh, I know, Peter got out on the water, took his eyes off the Lord and sank like a stone. But that happens when we lose sight of Jesus. But- at least he found the courage to trust God enough to step out of that boat.

It takes courage to travel into unseen and unfamiliar places. But thats what faith is. It is the evidence of things hoped for, the substance of things not seen. Faith= Courage+ Trust. Think of the people in Hebrews 11. Those we call the "Heroes of Faith". They were courageous in their trust in God. They seldom knew the outcome of the endeavor- but they trusted God. What faith! What courage!

Are you asking God, "Are you sure about that, God?" Don't think God is going to swat you down like a pesky house fly for asking. He expects you to. And, He'll give you the courage to trust Him. He gave Joshua the courage to lead the Children of Israel into the Promised Land. He gave Elijah the fortitude to stand his ground against King Ahab. He gave Daniel the courage to face a den full of hungry lions. He gave Paul the courage to face prison, beatings, shipwrecks and even death for the Gospels sake.

Just...trust. Take that leap of faith. Venture into the unknown at God's bidding. Step out on that water. You may not see Him, you may not have the assurance that He is there. But, He is. Just...trust Him. And you will do okay.

Bro. OneAccord,

What an utterly profound post you have written this morning, dear brother,
just after having lost your dear wife, Lola! It is better to trust in the Lord
than to have our trust in anyone or anything else! We just cannot go wrong
trusting in the ONE who made us. It is He that hath made us and not we
ourselves. We are HIS people, the sheep of HIS pasture. The Bible tells us
to enter into His gates with thanksgiving and into His courts with praise. Be
thankful unto Him and bless His name. For the Lord is good, His mercy is
everlasting and His Truth endureth forever. Have we done these things.
Talking about a universal health plan.

When the physician tells us to do something for what ails us, if we don't
do what he tells us to do, we cannot be benefited. Don't blame the doctor.

How much more is it important to do or obey what the One who made us
tells us to do. If we don't obey, don't blame God. His Word says to trust Him
with all our heart and lean not unto thine own understanding. To acknowledge
Him in all our ways and He shall direct our paths.

Perhaps it seems too difficult to trust Someone we cannot see. That's why
we MUST get close enough to Him and develope a close relationship with
Him so that we are close enough to hear what He would say to us and then
believe what He says.

An old song which we seldom hear anymore:

HE WHISPERS SWEET PEACE TO ME

Sometimes when misgivings darken the day,
And faith's light I just can not see;
I asked the dear Lord, to brighten the way.
He whispers sweet peace to me.

Chorus
He whispers sweet peace to me,
He whispers sweet peace to me,
When I am cast down in spirit and soul,
He whispers sweet peace to me.

I could not go on without Him I know,
The world would o'erwhelm my soul;
For I could not see the right way to go,
When temptations o'er me roll.

I trust Him through faith, by faith hold His Hand,
And sometimes my faith is weak,
And then when I ask Him to take command,
It seems that I hear Him speak.

He speaks in a still, small voice we are told,
A voice that dispels all fear;
And when I'm in doubt, or troubled in soul,
That still small voice I can hear.

Those words today, when recalled, after many
years, still causes faith to rise up in my heart
As an adult going through the trials of life
they meant even more and faith grew.

Sometimes when a person goes through a
hard trial, it might seem that a person's
faith might be weakened by the test but
like we exercise our bodies it does not make
us weak. It strenghens us. And when we go
through the hard trials it is stretching our
faith muscles that have perhaps have lain
inactive. We might feel we could not do it.
But when the time comes we find His grace
is sufficient and we have been exercising our
faith and we now know we can do it. We are
stronger for it.

Blessings,

Falla39

Re: Trusting God takes Courage

Thank you, Sis. Falla.

And I think the recent events is what inspired me to write this. When the doctor told us there was no hope, that he had done what he could, and had left us ...no, Lola...with two difficult choices, what else could we do but trust the Lord? Like Asa, we faced the decision to continue to trust the doctors, or we could trust God. I saw in the Bible what happened when Asa refused to trust God. So, Lola was faced to make a decision. She courageously decided to trust the Lord. What courage that took. I supported her in her decision. And, the Lord did what was best, and He did not fail us.

And, though I miss her so very much, I rejoice in the knowledge she is with the Lord. With courage and fortitude she trusted God with her life and, ultimately, her death. Now this is where MY courage comes in. I pray for the courage to trust God to keep me in His care until the day that I am reunited with my wife. I pray for the courage to live my life pleasing unto Him.
