This is the way I feel... with the exception that we do not know how much time passed between Genesis 1:1 & when God began the process of creating life in Genesis 1:2.

Do you feel that there is a possibility that a large amount of time passed between the original creation of the earth (referred to as "the beginning") and the creation of life that took place some 6000+ years ago?

This is because it is based on a half life that is just over 5000 years. The method used to date MUCH older material is based on the natural decay of Plutonium into its daughter particles. Using THIS method you could not date something under tens of millions of years but is good to several billion. This is the method used to date the Earth itself and is accurate to within only a couple of million years.
Just for grins.........How old is "water"?

Yes. They layout I provided a couple of days ago regarding the gap between vv 1 and 2 show my beliefs about the issue. The six days were not creation according to Psalm 104. They were RENEWAL, or renovation. Creation occurred in Gen 1:1. The six days were renovation of earth and recreation of life.

Psalms 104:30 KJV Thou sendest forth thy spirit, they are created: and thou renewest the face of the earth.

That is stated after listing each of the six days of creation in that Psalm.

The idea that REPLENISH cannot be literally re-fill may be contradicted by the term RENEWAL in Psalm 104. Thoughts? Why was RENEWEST the face of the earth used in Psalm 104 when regarding Genesis 1's six days listed in Psalm 104?

Excellent point, but.... we CAN tell the age of, say, water in a jaw, based on certain impurities OR latent radioactive levels combined with knowing where it was collected. But certain PURE items simply don't break down no more. Lead. Gold. H2O.....

All this discussion is a somber reminder, we serve an awesome God. I'm fighting back tears while reading some of these posts. It is awesome God would do something so awesome as creating an universe, yet knows my name.
