Ex-Governor Don Siegelman: Justice or Injustice?

Anyone from Alabama have a take on this story. Hard to know what to believe on this one. Unfortunately Rove's name is attached to this, which gives me pause to think it could be true, considering Rove's political tactics.

On the other hand, it is CBS news ...

It's an interesting read, that's for sure ... and it could bring more trouble to the current administration and Rove if it's true.

I'm from AL. and I haven't read this article, but southern politics can be messier than a cow pasture.

I saw Pelley's report on 60 Minutes and would describe it as a philippic. I have no idea if Seligman was truly guilty of the crime for which he was convicted. You can just look at the history of politics and see innocent people being railroaded.

A much more compelling case could be made for the innocence of Scooter Libby- but then we wouldn't have the evil Karl Rove to denounce.

Pelley's report is indeed one sided, though he may have a case to make. But to try and paint Alabama as some sort of long time bastion of Republican corruption would lead me to think that Scott Pelley can't be any more than about 20 years old. Since he's obviously older than that, I'd say he just has an axe to grind.

I have read about this before and if I remember correctly his daughter has been fighting this since the beginning. Going back to when he won the election and the next day they took it away from him. It should prove interesting to see how this comes out.

This would be of interest here.

See how many Democrats and Republicans are there in Montgomrey.

That link didn't work for me but I bounced around and found this one: http://www.alabamainteractive.org/al...e.state.al.us/

It seems you have to "check in" with the home page portal first. What's with you Southerners?

Anyhoo, both houses of the Alabama state legislature are currently under the control of the Democrats. This has been the status quo in Alabama for over a century. The Republicans have never controlled either house since Reconstruction.

So if Siegelman ran afoul of the law, it was a law written by his own party.

There also appears to be a concerted effort in the left-leaning elements of the media to keep the Republicans from winning control of the Alabama Legislature. Harper's magazine tells the horrifying tale of a Democratic member of the House being arrested in her own shower by jack booted Federal agents.

How could those nasty Republicans have sunk so low? Or do these arrests reveal more about how the Democratic party has been able to exclusively control Alabama state politics for over 100 years?
