Just in case.
I am eliminating debt but not backstocking food.

Although I am preparing to raise a few animals and a nice sized garden on the house we closed on yesterday.

God sent us an unbelievable deal buying a repo property from a bank and we bought the house with a cash closing yesterday... no mortgage.

I do firmly believe that a major financial collapse is just around the corner and this is a direction our family feels is wise.

It just so happens, though, that this is a direction we have wanted to go in for some time.

It isn't that we feel this direction is all of a sudden wise now... it is that we feel that this is a wise and blessed direction with or without a financial collapse.

No reason to be afraid when man says jump. As far as Joseph was concerned God said jump not man. When God speaks I will listen. As long as the government and media are proclaiming fear tactics, I will continue to tune out.
The warnings of the plaque... did not witness with me and I made no move.

The warnings of the terrorist attacks... did not witness with me and I made no move.

The warnings of an impending financial collapse... the media only started talking about it when it began to be so blatant that it is no longer deniable. They aren't fear mongering. As a matter of fact, they are behind the curve.

One need not fear when one has God. No amount of debt elimination etc is going to hide me without God.

But I do think that too many are built on the sinking sand of a fiat economy and, while God will never leave us nor forsake us, He never promised we would not lose all of the excess that we deal in day by day.

Of course... the American definition of excess is quite skewed.

From what I've read , at the very least, in case of an emergency like a terrorist attack, hurricane, electrical blackout etc, every household should have some canned goods, a flashlight and fresh batteries, a few gallons of bottled water, and some cash in an envelope.

Its also good to have a known meeting place to meet up in case cell the cell phone system is ouit of service in the case of such an emergency situation.

D4T,
I read this article the other day. Thought you'd enjoy it. Here's an excerpt.

Economic Woes
By Cal Thomas
Tuesday, February 26, 2008

Much of this economic "pain" is self-inflicted. Rather than purchasing homes they could not afford - or putting too much down, making them cash poor - they might have invested their equity in balanced mutual funds (the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 11.59 percent over a 10-year period). Such a path could have avoided the tight spot in which many now find themselves.

Some of the lust for bigger and better is human nature, but a lot is the result of consumerism. The Timex watch is no longer enough. We now must have a Rolex, though both accurately tell time. The adequate low-end automobile is insufficient. We must trade up to a luxury car with numbers and letters on the rear that mean nothing, but convey "status." And the house we are living in, which would have been more than adequate for our parents and certainly our grandparents, must be upgraded to larger digs in order to impress, if not growing families, than enlarged egos.

When none of this brings the promised happiness and fulfillment, we turn to drink, or pills, or counselors, or divorce court and seek significance in new things and relationships on what quickly becomes a personal boulevard of broken dreams.

We can't say we haven't been warned about this endless pursuit of stuff. The writer of Ecclesiastes wrote, "Whoever loves money never has money enough; whoever loves wealth is never satisfied with his income. ŠAs goods increase, so do those who consume them. And what benefit are they to the owner except to feast his eyes on them?" (Ecclesiastes 5:10-11)

When wants and needs are confused, desires become entitlements and politicians are afraid to tell people what they need to hear. Instead they tell them what they want to hear. Anger and envy result, as well as frustration with a political system that was not designed to indulge its citizens in their lusts or subsidize their greed.

Who will tell us that unending and expanding prosperity with home values constantly rising and a citizenry always able to afford them is a fantasy that is bound to end in heartache for those who buy into it?

The economy isn't bad. We are bad for believing that more is better and the most is best. We have an abundance of things, but a deficit of character. The economy is a false god, a golden calf. When this false god doesn't deliver, we complain to politicians who are happy to accept our faith in them to give us what we want - if we will only pledge to them our allegiance at election time.

I'm sorry, Ron. I totally forgot about it. I had to grovel and beg AE to release me from a prison of unforgiveness, but now we are good. Hallelujah! AE rocks! I'll listen to it now.

This link talks about the Amero.
Thanks, Ron. Yes, we are watching this.

They also have in the plans putting another toll road going into Houston from the Mexico area. It has all the farmers and ranchers up in arms. They will be making a decision in the fall, as per Rick Perry.

King Ranch is furious and going to file a lawsuit as the property is historical.

One old rancher stood up in a recent meeting and said he would shoot anyone that tried to take his property from him. My husband said they just don't know what you come against when you have a Rancher and his gun! It's a pretty serious situation right now.
