Re: Pulpit Bloopers.

Another anouncement during Camp... the man over the restrooms was having trouble with the plunger in the mens restroom. He made the anouncement, that when the men went to the restroom to be sure and shake that little thing real well when they were through...

Re: Pulpit Bloopers.

This wasn't from the pulpit, it was in a class room of about a dozen teenagers. Also, it happened 30 years ago when Mayberry RFD was still a tv show remembered by lots of folks.

I was teaching the class and I started talking about Hosea. I intended to show some things from the book by that name about God's love for Israel as shown in the story of Hosea and his unfaithful wife. Also about the restoration of that unfaithful wife as a picture of God's pursuing us and restoring us and as a picture of Israel's future restoration.

I mentioned that Hosea married a woman named Gomer. After I said her name, some one questioned (not addressed to me but like he was pondering it) "Gomer?" Then another voice spoke out "Gomer???". Then someone said, "Well, Gollllly" in a Gomer Pyle voice. Then some one else said "Shazam!" and that basically was the end of my teaching effectivity that day.

Point of order, Mr. Chairman. I have to take exception with the inaccuracies and fallibility of this post. Gomer Pyle, played by Jim Nabors was NEVER on the TV Show "Mayberry RFD". He appeared only on THE ANDY GRIFFITH SHOW, and latter went on to his own series "Gomer Pyle USMC". His character on the AGS was replaced by Gomers cousin , Goober, played by George Lindsay. As a side note, Goobers last name was not Pyle, as many "novice" fans of the show mistakenly believe. He was, in at least one episode, named "Goober Beasley". (Script continuity was never a high priority on the show.) Mayberry RFD, IMO, was a poor attempt to continue the legacy of the original show.

Andy Griffith, who played Andy Taylor, Sheriff and Justice of the Peace of the town of Mayberry, intended to become a minister, but chose acting as a career instead. Mayberry is a fictitous town loosely based on Mt. Airy, NC, the hometown of Andy Griffith.

And those are the facts with my right hand up. So, in reference to Bro. Sams mistake, and in the immortal words of our own Deputy Barney Fife: "Nip it! Nip in the bud!"
