Re: Urgent request for Tamor's hubby....

Thank you all again for praying. I don't know what we would have done without the prayers of family and friends. We've had our church family praying and he's on several church prayer lists around here. I'm also thankful though that we can make one post here and have our AFF family praying quickly.

He was in so much pain yesterday that he thought he was having a heart attack. If it had not eased up quickly I was going to get him to the ER. After I sent out the SOS for prayer, I got him rearranged and got some more pain meds in him and he eased up enough to be bearable. He had a tolerable night, in that he slept several hours without waking up, but as soon as he did, he was hurting.

If any on y'all have had this surgery, how long does this initial post-op pain last?

Praying for a miracle. God can remove that pain.

Rotator cuff surgery - He was injured in a vehicle accident Nov 28 and was initially diagnosed with whiplash. After a couple of months of physical therapy and lots of pain meds, he still wasn't getting better so his doc ordered an MRI and it showed a tear across two muscles. The surgeon we used mostly does them orthoscopic (sp?), but he is so broad and muscular in his chest and shoulders that he did both. He went in orthoscopic in two places, but also cut him open to repair it. We were prepared for bad, but this has been worse than we ever thought.

His surgery is similar to one I thought I was going to have to have for a calcified tendon in my shoulder. Very little blood goes in these areas and that is what makes it so painful and the healing process so long.

I was lucky that months of physical therapy combined with direct injections of cortizone into the shoulder finally started working. My doctor had told me if I had the surgery I would experience six weeks of the most pain I had ever had in my life but once that was over I would be glad I had it done. I actually even stopped taking my daily anti inflamnatory medicene about six months ago and have been doing fine.

I will tell him that you have come through this okay. Right now, in the state of mind that he is in, he is afraid that he is going to always hurt. I keep trying to reassure him that it will eventually be worth it. He told me Thursday night and Friday that he wished he had never done it, but I know that comes out of so many people's mouths right after surgery. The pain was so intense yesterday that he was begging God to let him die.

If it's been more than three weeks since his surgery, take him in to make sure he doesn't have a hematoma. He shouldn't be in excruciating pain any longer.
