I don't believe we have good or bad luck but as was stated there is a certain amount of personal accountability in the outcome.

A saint might still get lung cancer even though they're saved and haven't smoked in years. The past still affected their health due to earlier poor choices.

The same goes for what we therapists call "over-spiritualizing". I think people use the term "if God wills" as a cop-out for them having to do anything or be accountable.

I agree with the illustration of the smoking habit...it is comparable to many situations in life; God may forgive you for your stupidity but you have to reap the consequences of your behaviors.

Good post BTW

Matthew 5:45
That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

Psalm 75:7
But God is the judge: he putteth down one, and setteth up another

Romans 8:28
And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

Just some thoughts. I don't believe in luck. I do believe in chance and coincidence occasionally, but I believe that the Child of God's life has been turned over to Him and He is at the helm, working it all together.

But good luck and bad luck?! As LC said earlier, it sounds like superstition to me.

Excellent use of scripture! I think the semantics may be different...maybe we should say "Chance" instead of "luck".

haha

I read through the rest of the posts after, I think we're all aiming in the same direction. We all bear some responsibility for our lives, like the old saying says... "Do your best and let God do the rest"

Can I believe in GOOD luck?

My compay name is "Lucky Sweep"

The tradition of Chimney Sweeps kissing the bride for good luck started about 200 years ago after a London Chimney Sweeper saved the life of King George III. The sweep had been the only person brave enough to stop the King's out of control horses and carriage.

By Royal Decree the King proclaimed that all sweeps are good luck bearers and should be treated with respect. The folk law was established and to this day Chimney Sweepers are still invited to attend weddings (in England) and kiss the bride for good luck.

So, how many brides (other than your own wife) have you kissed?

But if you are a people watcher...you can truly see that some people really do have bad luck. What do you attribute this to? You can only partially blame the person involved...something else is surely going on, but for the life of me I have no answer to this dilemna.

Any thoughts on this subject?
************************************************** **

To quote the legendary basketball coach Booby Knight.

The desire to win is not the greatest motivation.

The desire for the preparation it takes to win is the greatest motivation in winning.

I think of all the times that I have been involved in bad times and felt like I was lost or alone in my situation.

Bad luck is only bad luck when a person looks only to the current bad situation to define themselves.

We should spend more time preparing for the next step if something in our path were to take a fork that we had no control over.

Bad luck can not stike down preparation and motivation.

The winner did not win by good luck they won in the arena of preparation.

The arena can be attitude, outlook, love, career, family, interest, success, ministry.

Add to our desire to prepare the hand of God.....

I quoted Bobby Knight.

The rest is my own thoughts.

LOL!

There is a Dr. (Mrs) and her daughters that always run out to meet me ... (the story is only the first one gets the luck!!)

Most people however have no clue about the myth of "Lucky" chimney sweeps.
