The joy of the Lo-o-oRd is my strength
The joy of the Lo-o-oRd is my strength
The joy of the Lo-o-oRd is my strength
The joy of the Lo-o-oRd is my strength

But then we sing

If you want joy you must (insert word like clap, dance, hop, skip, jump) for it
If you want joy you must (insert word like clap, dance, hop, skip, jump) for it
If you want joy you must (insert word like clap, dance, hop, skip, jump) for it

This has been a hopping thread and I only read the first few posts, so for all I know the thread may be about barbeque porkchops now and not even what it started out as....

I recently heard a husband tell (and I think this is a common story) about fighting with his wife on the way to church, and then his wife got into service, and worshiped God like nothing was wrong. He was really irritated by that, and thought, "Who does she think she is? How can she pray and worship like everything is fine?" So after church he asked her, "Why were you praying and worshiping like that, when we had just been fighting?" To which the wife replied, "I was mad at you--not at God."

Now, I understand the concepts of sin coming between us and God, and I also understand that if we have a problem with a brother or sister, it can hinder our relationship with God, but on the other hand, there is a time for laying it all down and giving God His Time anyway. And I don't call that hypocrisy. I think it's kind of self-centered to walk into church and sit all down in the dumps and upset with yourself and having a pity party because you did something wrong the day before. Get over it, tell God you're sorry, and worship Him like He deserves to be worshiped!

That's my sermon for today.
Thank you, Abigail!!! This is something we need to NOT overlook in our service. His Spirit draws us, works with us, moves us so that we can STAY saved!

When we worked with the Youth in a particular church there was one girl that made such mistakes! BUT, God would move on her and she would shout, worship, dance, etc. Once when she wasn't present the kids asked me about it.

I told them that they needed to understand that God does not stop loving us, working with us, moving on us and that was His way of responding to her heart felt cry, that no one was aware of and couldn't be aware of, let her dance!!!

When we stand before Him and He opens the books we will be without excuse.

We can stand before Him being reminded that we spurned His moving on us or we can stand before Him, someday, being grateful He never stopped His wooing - no matter where we find ourselves on this road to life and sometimes it gets rocky - I need Him to keep nudging me along. I can't always nudge myself.

Ooops, forgot I was on a self-ban for a while. This issue was much too important not to address.

Again, Abigail - excellent post and on the mark!!!

Good post! I have a few comments in response.

1. I only mentioned "shouting" because that was the subject of this thread. Although I agree with your comments about those who sing or play musical instruments, those things are not generally tied to one's supposed spiritual thermometer like shouting is.

2. I don't have a problem with anyone rejoicing before the Lord. Many times it may be a release from their everyday life. The point I was trying to make is that rejoicing before the Lord is not necessarily a spiritual determinator.

3. Just don't judge others when they don't dance and shout like you do. It is not the personality of some people to do that. When they were in the world, they were not the type to "party" or hoop and holler at ballgames. They are reserved and shy. This is their personality and in no way reflects on their love for God.

Concerning musicians - yeah, they gotta get out and do a dance every now and then. Did you all notice St. Mark leaping in that video and doing the sideways jerk?
St. Mark was at our church for a choir clinic many moons ago, and he left his post a few times.

Good post! I agree that how someone praises or worships is not a gauge on how spiritual they are.. I've been in pentecost for 32 years... Seeing people dance before God or run the aisles has been part of my church life since before I was able to walk. But I understand that not every one is the same... I don't think anyone should ever judge others no matter now wild or mild they may be.... God knows the heart of people!

Why did you feel that way?
I've been in church many times when people were jumping and shouting and I wasn't... I didn't feel less spiritual at all.

Yes! Amen! I am musician and I have left the keyboard and danced.... But I posted before that I have also praised God just as much while playing... I can't tell you how many times that I felt the anointing all over me while playing and I praised God with all that was within me.... And those were the best times I have had on the keyboards!

I think one of the things that makes praise and worship so beautiful, is that every one is unique. Our own, individual response to an Almighty God! I don't think it matters to God how crazy or quiet someone is. He takes it all in.... I don't ever want to injure a person by making fun or their dance, shout, or their tears.... You walk on dangerous ground when you do that!
