You know I was thinking about this during church tonight and really this issue has more to do with the following scripture moreso than the "Body is a temple of the Holy Spirit..." concept and that is...
"Thou shall have no other Gods before me."
Man cannot serve a nicotine addiction and the Lord at the same time.
Brother,
My Father-in-law use to smoke one cigarette at night before bedtime.
How many cigarettes do You need before they become idolatry?
Rico I think the better question to ask is what should we not follow?
If the law was a way for a nation to express his righteousness and nature to the world as God's chosen then I think much of it should be reflected in our lives. The law had many purposes and one was to reveal his nature to his people. I am not talking about doing these as unto righteousness but as a response of a good conscience before God.
Does the prophecy not say the law would be written on our heart. To say "law" is done away is misleading. A covenant can be done away but the nature/law of God does not. It if was bad for you then it is bad for you now.
Sure somethings are shadow and type but much in the MC is light!
Quoted for truth.

Everything doesn't mean everything. right I got it.
Brother, you cited: "Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things."
G-d allowed Noah and his sons to eat everything, but He didn't give the same license to their seed. He certainly could have; after all, notice a few verses later that G-d makes a covenant with Noah, his sons, their seed, and the beasts regarding His promise to never flood the earth again.

Baron, you may be surprised to know that Gentiles were present at Mt. Sinai when G-d gave His Holy Torah.

Can a person be a smoker and still be saved? Yes.
Some take the view that smoking is a sin. According to both the Old and New Testaments, sin is defined as transgression of Torah. Nowhere in Torah is smoking listed as a prohibited act the way other acts are prohibited. According to the Torah, smoking is not a sin.
Should someone saved be a smoker? No.
Reducing the length of our lives from sucking on cancer sticks is not the best way to express our gratitude to our Creator. We're to be good stewards, and this includes the way we are to take care of the vessel G-d gave us.

Back in the olden days, the Holy Ghost was powerful enough to deliver from worldly habits.
I believe He still is more than powerful enough. But will that change happen immediately for every person every time? I'd say no, but that's JMHO.
Can Christians fall into sin, develop evil habits and still be saved, while struggling to break free from the trap they fell or even jumped into? I'd say yes, but that's JMHO.
