It is a good question - though the "Thread Starter King" appears to be attempting a hijack...
But the issue really goes deeper than the arguments that OP's had in the last half of the 20th century. We have no sense of history - yet we aspire to live like a relatively small communistic community that splintered off of the already very fragmented 1st century Jewish community.
In many respects - we don't really want to be exactly like the 1st century apostles - and I don't mean just giving up air conditioning. And I really don't think that they'd want for us to be "just like" them either. Assuming that we'd even be around - which they obviously didn't - I'm certain that they would have wanted more for us (
3 John 1:2 - "prosper" here means "a successful journey...").
We should be making some sort of "progress." But the "progress" being offered by the dominant "apostolics" at the close of the 20th century was a vain and hubristic progress. They wanted us to "progress" into greater and greater degrees of "holiness standards." They wanted longer and longer lists of do's and dont's. And some of the stuff is just plain superstition.
To top it all off- they peddled this brew as some sort of a "return" to a place where most of us and most of our predessors had never been before.
