Ah, it is this very mentality (and I use that word loosely) that I believe will make a long term connection to this church difficult if not impossible.
...and I doubt that the children "want" be used, but "won't" be used.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."
Quote from Ethel Goss (widow of 1st UPC Gen Supt. Howard Goss) book "The Winds of God"
I broke the cardinal rule here and didn't read through the whole post.
My opinion (and this DID happen to us) is to make an appointment with the Pastor and explain their position on things. The fact that they are not new believers puts them in an interesting camp.
When it was us, we explained what our beliefs were and our opinions on standards, and explained that we were not going to be trying to change anyone's mind. I did wear dresses to church, and the pastor stated that he had no problem with that. He also explained that I would be welcome to work in kids church or ushering, but if I was ever to be in the choir, I would have to adopt these into my lifestyle.
We loved the church and attended for a while, but it really was a far dive; and besides, I didn't want to always feel like a second-class citizen on Sundays.
IMHO

AWEEEE - They got nothing to worry about. Those are Good People and I doubt they will have a problem there. Great music and he is a great preacher. I don't think he is Ultra-Con but his family is.
How sad - Some are still stuck in the Susanna Wesley mindset and everyone is in rebellion and going to hell if they do not comply with these control freaks RULES!
My advise is to RUN, Don't walk - and get out before these children are affected by the sad and depressed mindset of these midget mentality judges.
we dont know for certain that the pastor of this church is a control freak. we do know that he and the parents dont agree on some very important and very easily seen issues. (we arent talking about a philisophical disagreement on the nature of the the rapture or some such)
Even if the pastor isnt a "control freak", their disagreement here is going to cause these kids confusion.
