Re: 9.11.01/what were you doing?

I was sleeping, and my daughter called and told me to turn on the TV. I watched in horror. And I will never forget the look on President Bush's face when they told him at the school. I remember worrying about my sister in Virginia and my husband at work at a defense plant near Dallas. We should never forget that day as we now know, we are vulnerable to attack as much as any other country.

You are right - - - he was sitting in a circle of kids when they whispered something was up.

Re: 9.11.01/what were you doing?

I was still working dialysis, and since I am on the west coast, it was still pretty early here. I had come on my shift at 4:30 that morning and was just finishing my first wave of patients when people started gasping around me.

We had TVs along the top of wall across from the patients chairs, but I was so busy that I hadn't been paying attention to anything. I started watching right before the second plane struck, and it was just the most surreal feeling in the world.

I went on break right after that and we were all watching in the break room as the towers started to collapse, I remember watching the newscaster talking without realizing for a few moments that the towers were collapsing behind him.

My sister was having pretty major surgery at UCLA on her face that day, and I kept trying to get through to my parents, I remember the uncertainty of not knowing what was going to happen next. My dad finally went outside so he could use his cell phone to call me and tell me that they were OK, and that she had made it through surgery OK.

Re: 9.11.01/what were you doing?

I was at work and my boss came in telling about it, we went into the bar at the hotel and watched it.....it was very surreal for me. I called my mom and asked her what was going on, that I didnt think this kind of thing would happen in the US till the "end"...

it was very scary, surreal....we moved around in suspended animation all day. We got a lot of distressed passengers as they closed the airports. It was weird being in a war zone...we got stranded federal employees and others from businesses in downtown that were immediatly locked down.....

I was backslidden at the time, it was even scarier for me, I'd never felt so vulnerable and lost...

sadly no. The scare I got out of the 9/11 events wore off...

but when my daughter was born I was back in church the next time the doors opened and had her dedicated. It's one thing for ME to be vulnerable, but I had a little girl that needed the protection of God and she was going to be raised in church. It wasnt about holiness or standards or any of the stuff that goes along with being in "church" as I was raised...that was all immaterial. I knew the doctrine was right and I knew what I was SUPPOSED to do.....now I HAD to do it for my child....she wouldnt survive in this world without the protection of God...

She's almost 5 now.....and the scare hasnt worn off

I think there were alot of people who came back that day. I wonder where many of them are today?

You had a very good reason to get back to God. They say, "A little child shall lead them." Who knew she would be THAT little, eh?

Re: 9.11.01/what were you doing?

All this has gotten me thinking about something we found as a nation then lost because of 9/11.

i remember how polite people were driving here in Dallas in the days after 9/11. Everybody was so helpful and kind. people didnt get bothered by standing in a line at the grocery store.

There was some odd since that we were all in this together.

I dont know that it would be possible for that feeling to be maintained, but I have a certain sadness that this.... what every you call it... has been lost.

Someone said it is great that we have this rememberance on this date, but we need to be constantly aware that 9/11 is ever with us.

sorry for the sappiness.
