Re: Birthday cake making moms or dads?

The only cakes I've ever decorated were done by adding little toy dinosaurs, cars or a storebought set--and written on with tube icing.

There's a lady who lives close to me that has the computer program to print any image I want on an edible decal--so I order cakes from her. $20 is a small price to pay for me to not have to stress over decorating a cake.

Re: Birthday cake making moms or dads?

I've done cakes! I can come up with simple plans for almost anything. lol

Do you have anything more specific that you might want? I can look for pictures, or post ideas if you can give me a specific theme.

My favorite cake of all time was a round lime green cake with frogs on it (I cheated and bought the edible candy frogs). My kids absolutely LOVED IT. I've made castles, I've made princess cakes... I usually ask them what they want and come up with something close from there.

How totally cute!! I might try that for Ashton's birthday in November. He will be 4 and this is right down his alley!

Re: Birthday cake making moms or dads?

I love doing pretty cakes, wedding, anniversary, shower cakes...I'm not really very good at Birthday cakes...especially boy cakes and I have 4 boys! Hahaha

I once did a beach cake where you use crushed vanilla wafers for the sand, and you cut out an area of the cake and fill it with blue jello for the ocean...that one was fun and cute and easy. You can use the teddy bear graham cracker for beach figures and make a volley ball net with pretzel sticks and air head's candy.

Re: Birthday cake making moms or dads?

You guys are wonderful to humor me with this thread!!!

Thank you for posting the pictures Renda, that cake with the lake and the airplane hanger.. neat ideas!!!

My son actually loves Bob The Builder
There is a place here that rents the pan for Bob, but I'm nervous to try it.
I know there will be no practice run beforehand, and I'm just afraid to take on something and not be able to do it right.
I'm putting more pressure on myself than I really need to.

Daane also likes Blues Clues, and I think a blues head would be pretty easily done. I might opt for that. But I know a Bob Cake would fascinate him!

I wish I had a big dose of confidence. I think part of my problem is also just plain weariness. I don't want to be up till 1 AM getting it all done the night before.

Re: Birthday cake making moms or dads?

Ok, I know your boys are still little and this isn't Bob the Builder or Blues Clues. But, I'm so going to try these cakes sometime. I think they're FUN, and there is absolutely NO WAY to mess them up. lol

Here's a super easy looking Bob the Builder idea.

And some more ideas, some look complicated, some don't.

Some Blues Clues ideas.

I LOVE the paw print idea! SOOO easy! And very cute. (this site includes a template for Blue's head)
