Sister Falla...your question

Sis. Alvear,

I had asked this question on another thread but evidently no one saw
it. I am posting it here again as it seems to be a good place to ask it
again!
Not for offense!

Hugs,

Falla39

Re: Do You Believe In Women Preachers?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I don't know whether it is still in effect, but I remember when a man
had to be married before he could be a foreign missionary. However a
single woman could go.

Sis. Alvear, can you verify if this was/is true or not. I know you were
single when you went to the foreign field many years ago as a single
lady!

Not ever for offense!

Re: Sister Falla...your question

Years ago the UPC did Not send YOUNG single ladies as a rule to the mission field. When I was young I was told by some it was because of boys (native)...and girls becoming involved. Some older single ladies did go. I donīt remember young single men going but they might have.
Some may remember and I will call no names for it was never a SURE thing...but a young girl that got shot on the field...this was many many years ago.
I was called...but if I had my life to live over I would not let a young girl come to the field...she would have to be called enough that she would do like I did...I just came.
I guess that is a paradox...

I have seen to much too much...

I believe the plan of God is for couples...that may sound hard and some may say but you came single and God called...Yes that too is true...however knowing what I know today I donīt advise it.

Dear Sis. Alvear,

Went to church last night so I just saw this. I had seen the thread "Do
You Believe In Women Preachers?"

Basically I was just asking if it was true that single ladies were allowed
to go to the foreign fields, but a single man could not. He had to be mar-
ried. Just seemed strange that a woman would be allowed to go overseas,
unmarried but not a man unless married. I always thought that sounded like
a double standard. Almost like the man was the weaker vessel.

The Bible does say woman was made for man, not the other way around.
I asked one time what do the Holy Ghost and women have in common!
The Holy Ghost is One called alongside to help. A woman is a helpmeet.
Male and female both need the Holy Ghost. I've seen few male preachers
who didn't depend heavily on their wives.

I see nothing you have said that would be considered hurtful!!

My husband and I will be married 50 yrs. next July. We are a team and
if we work together, we can get a lot accomplished. Teamwork really does
make the dream work!

In homes, sometimes mothers are left alone to care and provide for the
children that were produced by two people. That is not the way God in-
tended it to be. But when it happens, she realizes she must take charge
and with God's help, move on. She didn't choose this but it has fallen her
lot. Sometimes a father is left with their children and the mother leaves.
This old world is "Out of Order", God's order! Many times mothers and
wives have had to do things because the man simply would not do it. If
someone (male or female) doesn't do it, it won't get done. If father doesn't
do his part, mother has to. If mother doesn't do her part, father had to.
But neither have to do it alone! HE will be that "Someone called along side
to HELP", if we allow Him to! "That we may boldly say, The LORD is my
Helper,......".

Hugs,

Falla39

Re: Sister Falla...your question

The Mormons had the right idea sending out young men...not that a young lady cannot go however people need a Male figure to look up to.
and I do not mean in any way to take away what any woman has done for the gospel...for I came as a young single lady...however there are many pitfalls.

And like you said...the Lord is my helper....

Sis. Alvear,

I cannnot help but believe the reason that John McCain has done as well
as he has, especially after choosing Sarah Palin as a running mate, is due
to the fact that he is older, but has a younger "helper", but not too young.

John McCain would have wisdom and experience, and she would add some
experiences, plus she has some good principals on her own. Perhaps he is
wise enough to know that women will appreciate a woman's in put. Not an
unstable type woman, but a wife of 20 yrs., a mother of five children, and
experience in governmental offices. She's down to earth, no arrogancy or
pretense. Sarah Palin certainly appears to respect and build up John McCain.

That's so important in a marriage or as a running mate in a public office. She
shows confidence in this older presidential candidate. Reminds me of the love,
respect and confidence I had in my late pastor father! I wish he was here to
share in the 50th Anniversary Celebration of the church he and Mom founded
50 yrs. ago. That's what teamwork, love, respect and confidence can build.

Added to his years of experience, and he has admitted that he has made
mistakes. I heard him speak about his first marriage, that he regretted but
took responsibility for its failure. Many marriages fail and when the couple get
older and have children and grandchildren, they wished they had never
divorced.

Teamwork (man and woman) makes the "dream" work! John's wife seemed
to be a part of his choosing Sarah Palin. Unitified. She is there, supporting
her husband and his running mate.

It may be that a team of a man and woman may be good for a change. It
certainly won't hurt to see how it works. God chose a man and a woman to
be over the home. Why wouldn't it work for a man and woman in the White
House.

God took a part out of man and made a woman. When a man has a problem
with a woman, could it be that that's the part of himself he has a problem!

Just some thoughts, but not to offend!

Thank you, Sis. Alvear, for your kind words! I love you too, Sister!

Just returned from a weekend "Four Sisters" trip that my three sisters
and I try to take once a year. It is such a wonderful time to just have
fun together. We went and saw "The Promise" last evening in Glen Rose,
TX. It is an outdoor amphitheatre and is presented after dark, similiar to
"The Passion Play" in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. It portrays the life of
Christ. This is their 20th year. I had seen it several years ago but one
sister had not seen it. We enjoyed going with her to see it. Being to-
gether was SO much fun. We are ages 50. 59, 65, and 69. You would
have thought we were four girls by our excitement at being together.

Sis. Alvear, I learned to be a sister by having three sisters and four
brothers. It is easy to love my brothers and sisters in Christ because I
first learned to love my siblings at home. We were taught to love each
other there.
Today we are very close and love each other SO much! WE
lost our first brother a little over a year ago. We had never lost a sibling.
We realize the value of that one that is missing.

Hugs,

Falla39
