So... you are right about the actual facts... but it was perceived by someone as being a hot piece of gossip.
This is evidenced by their need to ask the pastor if it WAS gossip in the first place... the affirmative response of the pastor... and the fact that, even after the pastor said that it would be gossip... it was too juicy not to pass on.

I was walking my dog tonight, we went to one service only on Sunday at our church, and passed the new WPF church right down the street from my house during there night service.
Curiosity got the best of me. I peeked in the window and noticed that the Piano player was one of our lower tier, fourth string piano players from our church.
It was telegraph, telephone, tell a woman time. I struggled with the urge to call my Pastor and eventually caved into the pressure to spill the beans. I asked him if it would be gossip to tell him who the piano player was down at the new WPF church and he replied in the affirmative. Well, I got around that one by texting him the name of the piano player and asking for forgiveness.
He texted my back and said it spoke more of the scruples of the Pastor of the church prosyletizing from other local churches. Especially this pastor, pastored here 20 years ago and was contacting old saints without even talking to the two local UPC pastors.
If this would have happened to the WPF pastor when he was UPC there would have been uh uh uh to pay.
Anyways, I am wondering what I look like in this deal. Am I a total jerk and gossip? Did I do the right or wrong thing? Should I just let God take care of the situation?
I feel like I should have just kept my mouth shut. But two things motivated me to tell. I am very loyal to whatever church I happen to be going to and I also always thought that this piano player was somewhat of a snob.
So theres the scenario, somebody analyze me.

and it was your business why?
and how come this speculation about the intent of the WPF pastor is any better than a christian attending church somewhere else on an off night?
Its not like they missed service to attend....but given the attitude in their regular church, I cant say I blame the *snob*....they are only 4th level..bottom feeder piano player.....
I mean reallly, who cares if they go to another church?
*roll eyes*

Sometimes I pretend like I'm praying for her in the prayer room "out loud". So in a sense I egg on her snottiness because how could she being so spiritual need prayer from a lowly saint as myself.
See I'm confessing my faults.
But yes, if I didn't tell the Pastor I might have told someone else. So that made me feel a little better about it.

You need to get off AFF, pick up the phone, and schedule an appointment with a therapist. You've got ISSUES!

I think if folks would start thinking of the churches as being God's churches instead of man's churches this would not be an issue.
Playing on an off night is not out of line, IMO.
Here's hoping the pastor borrowing the saint has discernment about the person he is using.

Re: Snooping on a WPF church
Well, I have been duly chastised. I should have kept my mouth shut. In hind sight I always end up thinking it would have been better to leave well enough alone. But I do confess my fault.
Mind you if this sister had been in some kind of sin I would not have said anything. It was done more out of anger/resentment from years of people betraying the trust of my Pastor. There is much more to this story than what was told including telling the Pastor that she wasn't going to so and so's church.
The church was started a block away from a UPC church that this Pastor use to Pastor. He did not communicate in anyway with any of the two UPCI Pastors in town and has actively recruited members from both churches. This sister told our Pastor that she was not going to attend the WPF church.
He could have started the church anywhere in town but started it a block away from our church. When my Pastor says he that this guy has no scruples he is correct.
I am very loyal and passionate about my church and I hate to see people shifting allegience to this other Pastor. I could tell many things about this man to prove my point but I have already spread enough gossip.
There are ethics in ministry whether you admit it or not. This Pastor was under disciplinary action with the UPC and although at one time he was a good Pastor there are many bad things that I could say that happened under his watch. This time I will leave well enough alone.
