Many pastors are feared of others taken over. Why?

many ministers, just sitting in pews. Why? In the old days churches trained new preachers, and sent them out to do gods work. Now the fade is fill the pews up with them. Is this the will of God.
Seems like now days if your married to the pastors family, you have a chance to move up in the ministery, but on the other hand some pastors are feared that others that preach to good will take over. If the pastor is in Gods will, how can this happen.
We all hear preaching that we need to get to a higher place in god. But when people reach that near that place, it puts pressure on others and fear in there hearts.

In proverbs it says, With hold not good to others, when it is in your power to do so.
Any thoughts on this subject?

Re: Many pastors are feared of others taken over.W

My observations:

Men who are "able" ministers have no burden to leave their church to start another work. Many are too comfortable and complacent. They have the mindset that their sacrifice to God is practically living in the church. Who wants to have to trust God for their next meal? Who wants to uproot their family and walk by FAITH, believing that God will provide all of their needs?

A minister friend of mine expressed his desire to be a pastor, but he ended with this. "A mans ministry will make room for itself."
I was thinking, "A church isn't going to drop out of the sky for you!"

One time I was in a service in one of the states that I was residing in at the tine and the pastor standing behind the lectern says, "Being called to the ministry doesn't mean that you have to leave. You can stay here and be a 'help' to the church."
I thought to myself, "How many 'helps' do you need for a church this small. Running less than 300 and there are 8 men in the ministry not counting the pastor."

Well I believe that a lot of young ministers will marry into certain famlies so that church will still be a family ran church. I believe the we should go into a higher level in our walk with the lord. A lot of these youngr minsters are being influenced by preachers outside of the upc.

One of my biggest pet peaves is ministers who sit in huge church's doing nothing, while there are hundreds of smaller churches begging for help, and countless cities with no Pentecostal witness.

Often there are reasons why a "smaller" church is "small." Some folks just like it that way and all the talk of revival will get them excited, but they still like a small church.

Other places simply don't have the strength to support new growth - and this is usually due to trunk and root. I've seen apple orchards where the branches of the trees have to be propped up with 2x4's to support the weight of the fruit they produce. The trees simply can't support their own fruit. This is a bit unnatural and is the result of hybridization of the trees.

I've been in churches like this. They can win souls but they can't keep their fruit. If you've got a lot - or ever just one or two - "extra" ministers "just sitting on the pew" then the fault often lies with the leadership. If these resources were harnessed to their potential then who knows what the result might be.

On the other hand, the situation could also just sort of devolve into a bitter debate over the propriety of waxed tipped shoe laces in a holiness church. It's those "little foxes" that spoil all your hard work, don't you know.

WOW! Are you, by chance, from NE Ohio?

Not going down this road. I agree with Bro. Anglin here. If there are preachers just sitting on pews, not using the gifts they're given and ignoring their calling, it's a shame to them. I believe God will hold them accountable.

When it stopped being God's church and started being "my income" then the fear came and it is from the devil! Fear is not from God. The more tightly you cling to "your church" the more at risk you are for losing it.
