"Lent" in the Bible

Well, now that we've celebrated Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) and Ash Wednesday, we are now into Lent.

A few years ago I saw where "Lent" is in the Bible.

I hadn't realized it but it's there.

In 1 Samuel 1:27-28 Hannah says:
27 For this child I prayed; and the LORD hath given me my petition which I asked of him:
28 Therefore also I have lent him to the LORD; as long as he liveth he shall be lent to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

Then, Eli says in 1 Samuel 2:20
20 And Eli blessed Elkanah and his wife, and said, The LORD give thee seed of this woman for the loan which is lent to the LORD. And they went unto their own home.

Does that mean we get to do the Fat Tuesday parades and throw plastic trinkets at one another?

not if you're gonna put those plastic beads around your neck.
That would be considered jewelry and would be a sin.
Remember, the Bible says that wedding rings are OK but jewelry is sin.

Re: "Lent" in the Bible

Pretty deep revelation Sam.
Thanks for sharing.

I have one to share also.

After much prayer and deep study, I finally recognized the first time meat was mentioned in the Bible.
The bible says Noah took ham into the ark. (Gen 7:13)

(Ham)

It is my desire to be "lent" to the Lord at all times, not just 40 days in the spring before the Easter Bunny comes.

also, remember that there was no card playing on the ark because Noah sat on the deck.

And after the flood waters had receded Noah and his wife Grace (Gen 6:8) sent out all the animals and told them to multiply. One pair kept hanging around and when Noah asked them why they had not left like the others to multiply, they said, "We can't multiply. We're adders."

Thanks for the insight. I guess some of the pages must be missing from my concordance. I can't find a lot of this stuff being mentioned anywhere.

Maybe you're referring to Genesis 24?
(Rebekah walked to the well with a pitcher.)

Or is it Genesis 3?
( Even stole first and Adam stole second)
