I guess I'm hard hearted, because I would find his repentance and restoration a lot more believable if he had permanently ended the relationship with his young hussy.

I'm well aware that I sounded like an old fogey just then, and I don't care.

Yep. I am sort of an Epleyite on this one.

I could be wrong, sounds like this has pushed hot button, something you have seen close up?

Sorta like the guy that stole your car.

Then he drives over to your house and asks you to forgive him for stealing your car.

After you forgive him, he gets back into your car and drives it off.

You never see your car again except when you happen to see him driving it around.

No more than anyone else I suppose. Haven't you seen plenty of ministerial lives destroyed over stupid stuff like this?

Then with the token, "I'm sorry", they're back in business, ex-wife (or husband) and children left to deal with the consequences? I'm for restoration, but it should be restoration to a relationship with God--not to all the perks of ministry. (Mind you, I know that ministry is not all perks--in fact for the average minister, it's mostly NOT perks!)

It bothers me when people desire a position so much that they're willing to say or do anything to get it back.

Something's rotten in Denmark!

Re: ~! Todd Bentley, re-married, restored~

Could it be remotely possible that Todd Bentley was never in a right relationship with God...That he never obeyed the Gospel...that he was and is a deceiver and charlatan???

That is a great story and unfortunately I hear and see variations of it far too often.
Where one brother cheats another out of money/car/wife/other material goods, then asks forgiveness without ANY attempt to make things right, at which point the person who has been cheated is now the bad guy in the eyes of the church for "not forgiving him/her!".

This quote from the article is part of what I am talking about:
Quote:
First of all, it is outrageous that Shonnah Bentley, Todd's first wife, does not seem to be an issue in the current discussion. Her name is never mentioned in Joyner's statement—while Todd is mentioned 18 times. We are never told how Shonnah is handling the divorce. How will she manage to care for the three children she and Todd share? She and the kids seem invisible in this process. Yet if anyone needs healing and restoration, is it not the other half of this broken family?
Followed a few paragraphs later by:
Quote:
Many Christians today have rejected biblical discipline and adopted a sweet, spineless love that cannot correct. Our grace is greasy. No matter what an offending brother does, we stroke him and pet him and nurse his wounds while we ignore the people he wounded. No matter how heinous his sin, we offer comforting platitudes because, after all, who are we to judge?
