I guess I'm hard hearted, because I would find his repentance and restoration a lot more believable if he had permanently ended the relationship with his young hussy.
I'm well aware that I sounded like an old fogey just then, and I don't care.
Pharisees in the NT blamed the woman. Shameless hussy no doubt.
One fine option is for them to break up. Then gossip can destroy her.
For every single man or woman in the ministry that falls. There are ten thousand that actually deeply and sincerely are doing the best they can to be faithful to their faith. For every airbus or Boeing wreck there tens and hundreds of thousands of safe flights. Some are rough. These plane wrecks sell news papers. And we pile on by saying they had false or partial doctrine. That is a different topic. I want To give the LORD the glory. sometimes mistakes men make get them on their knees. The LORD will save our enemies folks. No point in having enemies.
It would tickle me if all 3 people and those indirectly hurt get buckets of mercy, bushels of truth and truck loads of restoration and forgiveness.

I don't have solutions for this.
Callest thou me a Pharisee?
You've been calling women every name in the book for wearing makeup, but you're offended if I refer to an adulteress as a "hussy?"

I am NOT opposed to restoration and forgiveness--I am wholeheartedly for it. I just don't see how restoring the man to his position will help with that. Being restored to a right relationship with God is not the same as becoming a bishop again.
That is part of the problem--people see positions in the church or in the leadership as something to be sought after, and when they have a failure, instead of trying to fix their own hearts, they're just putting all the pieces back together in their lives!
"Uh-oh...I messed up...I can't be a preacher--I'd better apologize to the church so I can be a preacher again." No, apologize to GOD so you can be a Christian again. So there aren't any barriers. So sin doesn't separate you from Him.

That is sort of tough is it not? The key to repentance is the antithesis of fame - humility.
It absolutely IS tough to do. David did it.

I agree. I'm not saying in the LEAST that TB has achieved his repentance, if there is any, exceeding the fame of his fall. He very well may NOT be able to accomplish it. I guess it is possible though.....it will take time and that is what many ministers are unwilling to deal with after they have fallen.

2And early in the morning he came again into the temple, and all the people came unto him; and he sat down, and taught them.

4They say unto him, Master, this woman was taken in adultery, in the very act.
5Now Moses in the law commanded us, that such should be stoned: but what sayest thou?
Really, coadie, do you think I'm going to argue with scripture? I wouldn't condemn the woman to be stoned. I really don't think she's a "shameless hussy" as much as probably a young woman taken in by a man in a position of power--but then I don't know her--maybe she seduced him.
They can BOTH get forgiveness--just like the rest of us. That really isn't the point of this thread. Did you bother to read the provided article? No one is saying they can't be or shouldn't be forgiven.

Okay, then I'll say it..."She's a shameless hussy". She obviously knew he was married. She more than likely had a relationship with his wife.
Of course, he is the male version but exponentially worse.
Someone started a thread a while back about a revival of shame...I think that applies here.
