I can see owning a weapon for hunting and the like. But it seems like most gun enthusiasts I know are focused more on protection.

Re: Ready for a Gun ban?
For the record, I have been known to carry a pocket knife. Comes in handy sometimes. But I depend on the Lord for my protection.

And no, I'm not for gun control. This is a spiritual question relating strictly to us Christians.

That would be very impractical to tell a family not to have a gun.
By law, if a dog comes into my yard and appears to be a danger to my family, I can shoot it. It just so happened that a German Shepherd was in our yard and growled at my children. He doesn't growl anymore. Better yet, he doesn't even breath anymore.
We had another incident where the neighbor's vicious dog got out of his pen, came into our yard and was attacking our children's Alaskan Husky. My daughter, 10 years old at the time, was screaming hysterically when she looked out the front window. Needless to say, since he killed our dog, I gave him equal time.
And when a copperhead was on our back patio! Do I let it crawl around while my children want to play outside. No!

Re: Ready for a Gun ban?
I've been fortunate. God has protected us so far. I was going to buy a gun once and the Lord impressed upon my heart that the moment I bought that gun my family's safety was entirely in my hands. So I didn't buy it. I then read what David K. Bernard had to say about this sort of thing. I'm just old time...I don't think Christians need guns for protection, we have the Lord. If I can't trust him with my family's safety, who can I trust? Hunting, I can understand.

Well, if that's the case, then I can only conclude that your mentality is an "either/or" mindset. Most of us that have guns don't have an "either/or" mindset.
We trust in the Lord and own guns. He comes first and we totally trust Him. Just because we own guns doesn't mean that we don't place our trust in God for our protection.
As far as the Lord protecting us - He allowed me to be aware of the Cooperhead so that I could take care of it. My children were in the house when the neighbor's dog showed up. He could have attacked them! I was able to shoot the German Shepherd before he caused any damage to my children or any of the children in our neighborhood.

Oh, spare me the drama! I own various pistols, rifles, and other goodies! The scriptures don't prohibit me to own them. Furthermore, I possessing any weapon doesn't demonstrate any lack of faith in God, as you state above!
If owning a weapon (knife, gun, etc.) underscores a lack of faith, then Apostle Peter had major issues while following Jesus. Furthermore, we read Peter always carried a sword while following Jesus, and Not once did Jesus command Peter to discard his sword. If Jesus would have requested Peter to discard his sword, Peter never would have drew his sword and cut off the high priest servant's ear! By this time in Jesus' ministry, Peter had well traveled thousand of miles with Jesus, while Peter carried a sword.
John 18:9-11
9That the saying might be fulfilled, which he spake, Of them which thou gavest me have I lost none.
10Then Simon Peter having a sword drew it, and smote the high priest's servant, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
11Then said Jesus unto Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?

Cop Killer bullets? These politicians are ignorant. Any bullet can be considered a "cop killer" bullet. All it takes is a functional pistol and bullet placement!

You are wrong! The Bible says they had a sword, not a GLOCK!! Because it does not specify firearms then we must not be able to own one !!!!
Ha! Right!
That is the logic of some anyway!
