I asked my mom what it was like growing up in a family with 14 children. She said "Well, we always had a ball team!" But I know they were very poor. My Mom gave her cousin her prized possession for her birthday one year, an empty spool of thread!! They also ate a lot of molasses sandwiches. When my Mom and Dad got married and my Mom made "spaghetti", it was noodles with a can of tomato soup on top!
My mom said they ate a lot of mustard sandwiches, and sugar sandwiches.
I remember when I became UPC, my Grandmother called me and was so upset! I didn't really understand this at the time but I have an uncle who did some research into the past. Some material I got from him went into how the Catholics and Protestants were bitter enemies and would not buy and sell land to each other. That made an impression on me and I realized that is how my Grandmother grew up. I have a cousin who told me that (and he has become Baptist) the Catholics and Protestants won't wave to each other on their way to church on Sunday. Other than that they are good. LOL!

Wow, that's an old video! The singing was rather pathetic. LOL!
I was looking at the occupations. My grandfather was a fisherman and I have relatives who are lobster fisherman. I don't know if you've ever seen those big lobster traps. They are wooden. At the last family reunion, they had a lobster trap throwing competition. Here is a picture of some lobster traps:
