That was an interesting question, Prax. Not quite sure how to answer.

Re: My Acadian Heritage

Oh boy. I told my Mom how much I love the song Evangeline and now she wants me to sing it at the family reunion!! In front of all those French speakers!! And I keep remembering my Grandma laughing at me!! LOL!! Well, maybe if I listen to the song a hundred times and get some help from my daughter, I might be able to pull it off. I would absolutely love to be able to do it!!

Re: My Acadian Heritage

Haha...Evangeline.
I grew up in an Acadian French speaking household. I have been recently considering getting a degree in it. A great place to visit and hear the language plus eat some great cajun food is Lafayette, La. I lived there for several years. There is a cultural center that has alot of free stuff to view about the Acadian Saga plus Vermillionville which
has so much to offer. On most Saturdays they have a French Acadian childrens band
at the "Big Dance Hall", which has wood floors. They let the children get up and play instruments along with the band and everyone drinks lemonade. Its pretty fun for
families if you are ever that far South.

I would love to. I have actually never been that far south. My husband was in New Orleans for the clean-up (and yes, I know they are still cleaining up!). I didn't realize it but I was told my Mom's first language was French and she went to school and didn't understand English at the time. Now, she hardly knows French. What a shame! It would be a cool degree!!

Re: My Acadian Heritage

Amen. I love New Orleans. We have been a few times lately. My husband likes the French Market. There is a very cool River Boat cruise with dinner and a Jazz band playing. The city is not the same as its actually nicer and cleaner. I loved it.
My dad spoke no English until he was 19. My mom taught him.
