What Do You Think???

My daughter called me today, upset because she had been pulled over by local law enforcement. The reason she was upset was that she thinks she was the victim of racial discrimination, or either a type of racial profiling.

My daughter is caucasion. She was driving home after work, giving two of her friends a ride to their home. Her friends are African American. The officer was also African American.

My children have been taught since they were toddlers, that you don't judge a person based on skin color, that you look at the heart. I think this was probably her first experience with racism of any kind.....Anyhow..

As she was driving, the officer drove past her, did a u-turn, and came flying up behind her with lights and sirens. She said she pulled over and he got out of his car, yelling, "Driver, get out of the car".

She unfastened her seatbelt and got out of the car and asked why he had stopped her. His response was, you weren't wearing your seatbelt. She said she was and he insisted that she wasn't. Well, anyway, he got all her info. and gave her a warning.

After this, he then asked for her friends ID's, when they gave him their ID's, he got on his radio and did a check on them. He didn't call in and check my daughter's.

What do you think? Was this a type of profiling, a form of racism, bad policing, or do you think he was just doing his job?

Re: What Do You Think???

It could be that he just wanted to check out the girls in the car, or maybe he just likes to act tought. Either way, he was not just doing his job.
My son once gave a ride to a man he worked with that happened to be of a different race, and afte he let the man out, a policeman stopped him and wanted to know why he was in that neighborhood. Then after my son told him, he said don't ever give that man a ride again.

dunno...I had something happen once that was kinda funny. I was driving and I got pulled over. My friend was in the passenger seat. I asked "why did he pull me over?" and my friend replied "It's because I am black"....

Well as it turned out I had forgotten to put my tags on the plate, they were in my glove compartment...that was why he pulled me over
