I attended JCM in it's prime and did not have a clue it had instructors with a PCI take on doctrine. T.L. Craft was and is very much a 3 stepper and I left JCM just as much one as when I arrived. Nothing there in a class ever challenged that doctrine while I was attending.

I never agreed with the extra biblical and non biblical standards so that had nothing to do with JCM.

JCM was considered liberal because boys and girls could ride in the same car to church and eat together in the cafeteria unlike some other UPC Bible Colleges of the time.

I don't remember ever being taught standards at JCM. We were taught School Rules, but when you went home on vacation breaks, you all were just who you were before JCM. As far as doctrinally, JCM teachers actually helped me to understand that it was ok to question what you've been taught and to figure some of it out on your own. The church we attended in Jackson is what preached the conservative, "holy" message, not the school.

What we learned at JCM?

How to sneak out of your dorm at night an go to IHOP for pancakes and bacon!
How to go on an unchaperoned date undetected.
How to go to the beach with a PK so you wouldn't get in too much trouble once you got back on campus (just don't take pictures!).
How to get room restriction for not wearing pantyhose to chapel. (BUSTED by Bro. Oggs!)
How to watch movies with all your friend in a room at the Holiday Inn when your roommate's brother comes to town to visit.
How to form a perfectly coiffed poof positioned on the forehead like a miner's light.
How to lift a panel off of the dropped ceiling in the ladies lounge to either sneak across to your boyfriend's room or chat with the guys while they were working out.
How to avoid slipping in iced "water" by the dorm-room doors.
How to endure lengthy room restriction for going to the reservoir...

and much much more!

BTW...I'm still Pentecostal to my core, but have never agreed with "MANual" standards. What especially raised my hackles was "standards" being preached as heaven-or-hell issues and being used as a barometer of spiritual depth. grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

I still believe in ONENESS of the Godhead, full-body immersion baptism in Jesus Name, etc.

When I said "cultural side of Apostolic Pentecostals", I meant the way they dress and the style of worship. I've gotten to where I enjoy a sermon outside of preaching on standards or Acts 2:38, and listening to a song without someone yelling into a mic!
