Our planned trip back to Northern Italy this August is now again postponed - this time because of an expected bundle in swaddling clothes...
Sorry to disappoint, but it wasn't a wine bottle! It's only water. But the spike heels.......yes, those are permissable!

We did have alcohol pushed at us everywhere. They could not believe the stupid Americans did not drink. At one hotel, we had a chilled bottle of champagne, at another hotel, a chilled bottle of wine in our room. At one restaurant, they brought us glasses of champagne for free and at another one, free little shots of something. I was not the least bit tempted on any of these accounts. One whiff of the stuff makes me wonder how anyone can drink it! I guess you acquire a taste for the stuff.

The bottled water was expensive enough!

Right. They do wine with everything. We did enjoy the two to three hour dinners with entertainment though.

I might feel differently about alcohol if I were living in an area like that. I don't know how any missionaries over there could take a very strong stance against it. It's just like water to them.
