Re: H1N1 Are things about to get really, really ba
I think pneumonia is a primary cause of death. We had a 19 year old die about a week ago. I know it has been wide spread in our area, but mainly it has hit children to 25 years of age.

The cases I've heard mentioned, they have said the cause of death is complications from pneumonia like symptoms caused by H1N1.
And people wondered why I've missed so many church services in the last three weeks while I've had this ear infection and all the fever and junk going on. I wasn't certain what it was-- and I wasn't exposing ANYONE else to it. I'm sure some were assuming I'd backslidden.... imagine their surprise when I was well enough to return to church tonight--and feel like I was well enough that I wasn't going to make anyone else sick.

The new Pentecostal Herald has an article on swine flue.

Going to the doctor's office is the worst thing someone can do! All one is going to do is infect everyone else!
There's nothing you can do about the flu, whether it's the regular kind or the swine flu. Just stay home, rest, and drink plenty of fluids.
As for causes of death, it's not pneumonia really. The flu is a respiratory illness, but it's different than pneumonia, although the symptoms can be similar. On an xray though, it's not the same at all. This is perhaps why asthmatics and those with previous respiratory problems are getting sicker and even dying. But chances are, they'd die from regular flu as well.

H1, I hope you weigh in on this (and any other health professionals on the forum)--I am REALLY struggling with whether or not Jeffrey should get the vaccine. I thought my mind was made up, but as we get closer to flu season, I am just way too fearful!!! Jeffrey's doctor recommends that he get the flu shot as a pneumonia preventative every year, but I am just torn about the swine flu shot.
As you know, he has mild asthma, so a cold or flu can easily turn into pneumonia. The year he went to preschool ('07-'08), he had pneumonia three times, and it all stemmed from catching a cold or virus from kids at school. He missed a total of about 6 weeks of school.
Sooooooo...he's going to get his regular flu shot this weekend--and I just read about the 7 year old little girl in Georgia who died from the flu, with apparently no underlying conditions. Plus, I spoke to my sister yesterday, and my niece and both her boys have H1N1!!!!
I'm trying to be very calm, but inside I'm going into Mommy panic mode! And I don't even WATCH the hysterical CNN-type reporting.

My daughter Rebekah is just getting over it. My nephew got it two days before she did... they were both pretty sick. She kept saying it feels like a ton of bricks on her chest... she had such difficulty breathing. Even today she still coughs like she has bronchitis and she has been feeling much better since Sunday.
