Regular flu or H1N1?

Re: H1N1 Are things about to get really, really ba

there have been some schools close around here from it... It seems to be hitting the very young. When Bekah got it, I was worried about my getting it. I had already had my flu shot for the year. My boss told me to not worry, I am too old. lol I guess it is hitting the younger bunch. I guess for once I was glad for my age.

I heard there were some school closings in the area so they can sanitize the schools and keep the students separate to try and keep the spread down some.

Jeffrey's doctor recommends that he get the flu shot as a pneumonia preventative every year, but I am just torn about the swine flu shot.

As you know, he has mild asthma, so a cold or flu can easily turn into pneumonia. The year he went to preschool ('07-'08), he had pneumonia three times, and it all stemmed from catching a cold or virus from kids at school. He missed a total of about 6 weeks of school.

Sooooooo...he's going to get his regular flu shot this weekend--and I just read about the 7 year old little girl in Georgia who died from the flu, with apparently no underlying conditions. Plus, I spoke to my sister yesterday, and my niece and both her boys have H1N1!!!!

I'm trying to be very calm, but inside I'm going into Mommy panic mode! And I don't even WATCH the hysterical CNN-type reporting.
While the flu vaccine covers only what the 'experts' think will be the most likely strain to go around, I'd go ahead and get it for him.

As for the swine flu vaccine, I'd advise against it. For one thing, he'd have to have 2 vaccinations at least a month apart, for another, it's a live virus given, and last but not least, they don't even have any idea when it's effective or if it's effective at all. It's just a lucky guess at this point.

Re: H1N1 Are things about to get really, really ba

Over here just last night a 58 yr old man died from it; last week a 12yr old girl, so far there are 6 Swine Flu related deaths this year.
In the newspaper the article said that it seems that those with other health
issues is a determing factor, for whether death or just sick., I did notice those with obesity breathing disorders, sleep apnea, hypertension
( yikes did they look at MY medical records or what? ) well I don't ALL of those but enough. *help!*

Soooo we are being extra cautious in hand washing, etc., now that I think about this, when my husband was so sick in July, we had thought that 'maybe' he might have that what with pneumonia, and then it turned to DBL pneumonia, my goodness! It very well COULD have been, but for GOD.
*whew* HE is soo good.

HE IS THE DETERMING FACTOR in our case(s), Hallelujah! Only HE decides if we will get it or not., I am so thankful for HIM.

"By HIS stripes we are healed"!!! woo-hoo!

Something like 36000 peopel a year die from the regular flu. Less than what...75 or something have died from H1N1.

No panic necessary. It is this years "epidemic of the year" like SARs, Avian Flu and the rebirth of Smallpox from a few years back. Its always somethign because the drug companies need to have panic to make more profit.

I have it now. Type A. It is pretty rough, but did not affect my stomach at all. So that was a blessing. My wife is pregnant and I have a 3 year old, so I've had to isolate myself from them as much as possible. I'm on the upswing right now, but it hasn't been pleasant. The worst part was getting pink eye at the same time - presumably from rubbing my eyes.
