Re: Statement of Apostolic Policy

That seems to me to be exactly what happens when the Pastoral authority is over emphasized. I have seen UPC congregations fall apart when the Pastor decided to take over another church. Despite having a pastor they were like lost sheep wandering around in the wilderness. Same happens when a pastor dies. People are unable to walk on their own...

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

John's statement about the connection between this church and the late SC Johnson answers a lot of questions.

Also, not knowing the people named in the document personally, the use of the various "given" names kind of throws me off as to who's family and such. My only observation is that if it's a hereditary thing and the people like that, then it's fine. If it's something else and the folks all want it that way, then that's good too.
