Tommy Bates?
I think he's not very far from me, somewhere over in northern Kentucky. I've never been to his church or heard him speak.

Here is a youtube video of Jaime Paul singing a jazz version of "Poor Wayfairing Stranger" at Christ Church Nashvillle March 7,2010.

Won't get you Pennycostals jumping up and down like mexican jumping beans but still a great song.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

You and Steinway are on the same wavelength! I love that jazzy version.

After watching this video (yes, I wasted 7 minutes of my life watching all of it), I would like to categorically deny that I have ever been pentecostal in my life. I would like it removed from my resume.

What's funny is, she's actually a serious (to someone anyway) recording artist. But I noticed all her "hits" are in the same key with the same beat with the same meaningless-type words. Everyone needs to hear "The Drinking Song." It'll be on America's Top 40 very soon.

What a way to wake up on a Sunday morning!
I'm with you! This is my style too.

I thought this was a pretty good movie. I was told that the girl (singing) had her debut on American Idol. Do you know if that's true?

How is it there are 5 pages of people making fun of this and I'm the only one that gets barked at? Dang!! But on the whole, I'd have to agree with your statement!

But for your reading pleasure, I've created a line-by-line critique of Linda's smash hit, "The Drinking Song."

Lyrics & Comments
If you've been drinking old wine, you need something new
••No, actually I've never had any wine at all in my life
Let me tell you about a high I've found have I got a fix for you
••I really don't like "highs" or "fixes" and I don't really like it when something as special, comforting, and life-giving as the Holy Spirit is compared to something so destructive. Fingernails on a chalkboard for me
You can't find it in a bar room you don't sip it like a pill
••Can anyone enlighten me on how to "sip a pill"???
But it comes straight out of heaven and honey you'll know it's real
••Please, I'm not your "Honey." Ick.
Have you ever been so drunk that you didn't know your name
•Not only have I never had any wine, I've never had any alcohol. So the answer, again, would be, "No."
So intoxicated on something you can't explain
Have you rolled across the floor have they had to pack you home
••Not only am I unaware of how one "sips a pill", I'm also unaware on how one would "pack me home." I'm getting the feeling she's making up stuff so that it will rhyme.
Let me tell you about a new wine that I've been drinking on
Well you can't put new wine in an old bottle
There's got to be a change
That life that you've been living it needs to be rearranged
••No thanks. I'll keep the life I have. Yours looks pretty messed up to me.
If you think the old is better then you won't agree
••I can't think of anything in this song I'd agree with
But if you're looking for something different
Come and go out drinking with me
••No thanks, you're not my type. Again, "ick".

I'm thinking that Than Haney (author of the smash hit "I'm A Pentecostal") wishes he had written this song.

Ok, how was my music review? Should I go into business as a music critic?
