Re: Jennifer Knapp officially comes "out"
I am glad to hear that she came out.
Having said that and probably shocked a few of you on here, let me say this...now that she is being honest with everyone, including herself, hopefully she will be able to deal with this...I am not for a homosexual lifestyle...period.
However, like the alcoholic, the first step is admittance to the sin...I will be praying for her.
Also, I'm glad to hear that Christian music labels/radio/media is not publicly behind her music this time...

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Re: Jennifer Knapp officially comes "out"
I honestly, sincerely don't (and hope I never do) understand how someone can be so immersed in "ministry" and Christianity and then make a choice so diametrically opposed to its principles seemingly w/o regret.
It is truly sad. I really feel badly for her. Words like blindness and deceived come to mind. I wish her no ill will but is it just me, or do things seems to be sliding downhill more quickly?
As has been mentioned, I wonder how long it will be before main stream born again EVANGELICALS begin to accept these "alternate" life styles!

It really is "apples and oranges," but the Left is fond of this argument.

It's a matter of interpretation. I remember my senior pastor, who has since fallen asleep, teaching against mixed marriages from the Bible. That's the way their generation interpreted the Scripture. What I think Sam is wondering is if our current "interpretation" of Scripture on this subject will also fall along the wayside for a more accepting position.
I remember mixed marriages being preached against from Ezra chapters nine and ten. Even Verbal Bean had a sermon (was it titled "Death in the Pot?" wherein he said something to the effect that the church would drift so far from God that "mixed children would be dancing before the altars of the LORD."
Interpretations often change within a couple generations. If you were to travel back in time to the 20's, 30's, 40's, and perhaps even the 50's you'd see mixed marriages being condemned based on their interpretation of various biblical texts.
Today we say that the Bible doesn't condemn mixed marriages.... Sam is wondering of tomorrow we'll say that the Bible doesn't condemn same gender marriages or relationships.

What I meant was that there are those who will make an appeal to the old racist laws against "mixed marriages" as being comparable to the present day resistance to "gay marriage."
That's what I'm saying is "apples and oranges."
A racially "mixed" marriage between a man and a woman will still produce offspring. That is what the racists of the past sought to avoid when they legislated against such marriages.
"Gay marriages" produce no offspring. They are being opposed, not on racist grounds, but on moral grounds.
Gays still have the fundamental rights of free association. They can live with and couple with whomever they choose. They are just currently (for the most part, there are some exceptions) having a societal sanction withheld from their unions in the form of a marriage certificate.
|
If the production of offspring makes a marriage acceptable in God's sight what about the vast number of marriages wherein the couples decide not to have children? Are these sinful unions?
Just asking to get some clarification.

I ask this question for sincere reflection. Did you "make a choice" to be straight? Could you have "made a choice" to not be straight? For the record, I couldn't. I've always been attracted to women. However, I have some friends who have simply always been attracted to the same gender. They never made a "choice" in regards to the attraction... opposite genders just never lit their fire, if you know what I'm saying. So I'm not convinced that it's easily dismissed as being a "choice".
