When I get up to speak I do not want anything I have on to draw attention away from what I am saying...so my personal rule is: just dress nice, clean and neat...

I remember some years back when the AMF was new, one UPC minister said, "They don't think they've had church unless they've beat somebody up." I used to get their magazine back in the seventies --what vitriol!

Sam most of them are precious people and many are dear friends however sometimes people think they have to be tough and rough to please God...I am just saying clothes do not impressme as much as people's spirits do!
We had someone visiting us that looks and dresses the holiness standard...yet their actions and words chilled me to no end...so that is why I always say, God knows the real us...the real Janice Alvear....

Every sermon ever preached by every preacher, needs to be weighed by God's word. In addition every word that we speak will be measured by God's standards....

I didn't notice any price tags on any clothing that I could see, so really how does one know?

I really wonder why it bothers you that people do spend money on themselves? They are blessed of the Lord and as long as they bless the work of the Lord in and through their local church, the rest they can use as they please?

I know this isn't going to be a popular statement, but wonder how much money is spent on the vices of the world? jewelry? makeup? there are many others I could mention,

I would imagine lots of money is spent on hunting trips, endless vacations, and lots of other things...

I don't care what people spend I am just saying many things can become vices...greed is the most dependable of all vices....

I have no idea what people spent or spend I only said the Jackson reunion people did not look as fancy dressed as the AMC....no harm meant...

Sis A, I want you to know I support missions whole heartedly, and I do think it is sad that some spend more on entertaining themselves in one day/vacation/etc... than they spend to support missions in a year.

we've had at least one alvear at our church and I do hope we were a blessing to him.

A friend of mine tried to visit one of the services in a spirit of friendship. He was turned away at the door because he was wearing a blue shirt.

I asked in my first post if it was a minister's conference.
As it turns out, it was...so zero new converts. and Lord help the one who tried to enter to hear the Word.

If you can sew something, why not sew a nice "modest" outfit that is not quite so 16th Century?

If it doesn't take too long put your hair up, why not choose a style that doesn't make quite so much of a STATEMENT???

And why post vicious generalizations about JCMers who aren't hurting anyone, just trying to stay connected with good friends at a reunion? Heard some tough stuff being said by nice Christian folks pretty much lumping us all into the same vat of debauchery. Ha! Oh well...had fun anyway!
