Soaking Prayer?

http://www.alittleleaven.com/2009/02...ng-prayer.html

http://enjoyingthejourney.blogspot.c...-biblical.html

I have started to see this as the big "next thing" among our charismatic brethren... I have even seen folks like JS in Shreveport having these types of services (though there may be differences from what he does to what this is.. i dunno.. I dont mean this as a attack..).

The apostle Jame, the half-brother of Jesus was called "old camel knees" because he spent so much time in active prayer. We have a long tradition of active prayer. This seems different if done in this way... its blanking the consciousness and potentially opening up someone to spiritual posession or maybe opression ... they advocate folks to pretty much go to a form of meditation.

Jesus didn't exhibit any of this activity... his sample prayer took alot of thought.. it wasn't just laying on the floor, passively open. When he prayed in the Garden before his crucifixion... he was weeping and quite active.

I know that those who do long term prayer will spend a time of listening after they pray.. that I understand.. but is this something else different. And consider that this is coming from the Toronto Airport Fellowship.. which has been a source of crazy stuff like animal noises and "holy laughter".to

Im going to do more research to understand what they are really getting at if anything... anyone have any imput?

Re: Soaking Prayer?

Not sure what exactly this is about, however the bible does say to meditate. What some do is wait, while thinking on Him with a mind of prayer. Just because someone is not saying words over and over does not mean prayer has ended

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Cant speak for what others do but to wait on the Lord is awesome. "Soaking" to me is like rivers of living water.

Re: Soaking Prayer?

Well... waiting on the Lord is not a problem. But... while this seems similar.. from what I have been reading... its not that at all. Usually you combine it with active prayer.

This instead seems to be a form of meditation that puts you into a altered state of consciousness. There is no mental or verbal prayer to God... its just putting yourself into neutral.... dunno.. this seems to scrape the edges of the occult from my initial understanding of what they are trying to accomplish.

Re: Soaking Prayer?

I would view this as similar to Shockamoo... mostly harmless, but nothing to seek after.

Re: Soaking Prayer?

I just heard about getting the "Soaking Prayer Center Kit"... No thank You. I guess I would pretty much be in the resistor camp.

Re: Soaking Prayer?

The soaking prayer I've been around and participated in isn't any different from the UPC prayer services I attended. Well, except the whole blanket thing... I get the point for that, my church has carpet over concrete..it gets cold on that floor....lol
