I have been to several churches that don't preach dress codes. Amazingly, I didn't see a single man there wearing a sleeveless shirt.

The Bible does set standards, but it doesn't give us specifics regarding alot of activities that go on around us today. Would you deny this?

What church is this? I want to stay as far away from it as I possibly can.

I remember about 18 years ago we had an evangelist in preaching a revival first couple of services were great... Then on night number 3 the dude got up to deliver the message an and said, "Tonite I am going to talk about finger rings" my pastor said "No you're not. Revivals over. Sit down"

My church doesn't make people line up to a set of dress codes.

We have guys show up in shorts and sleeveless shirts all the time. We call them "visitors". When they decide to keep coming back somehow the shorts and sleeveless shirt turn into long pants and a modest shirt.

Some churches would turn those people away the minute they step through the door.

Those are the church I try to stay far away from.

LOL.....sure it does.

There's so much irony in your statement - - I don't even know where to start.

Please notice the word "specifics". Can you find me a verse that says, "Thou shalt not get high"? but it does give us guidelines. The Bible says, "Thou shalt not kill" so what do we do if someone attemps murder, but fails?

If you live by the guidelines given in the Bible TRULY....and are filled with HIS spirit and allow GOD to lead and guide you, then you will know exactly what to do and not do. You don't need man making up rules to "apply to specifics" for today.

Where does this list stop?

Who decides what's important and what's not?

Exactly.
Thats the wonderful thing about biblical principles... they are solid and timeless. You got guys out there pushing rules made up in the 1940's that don't cover everything for 2010, which is why people go on about television but use the internet and say that is fine.

The principles of the bible applied to both will keep people away from bad web sites and bad TV programs. If you try and cover every little thing with rules you will have a never ending list that will need daily revisions.
