Experience is beautiful so let me explain it like this.
When you took your precious little girl to get vaccinations they include alittle of the virus in that shot. It builds her resistance to that disease. When you are too protective and shield your children from too much it can backfire on you. Children are going to be curious and learn so what better way than to teach yourself what is right and wrong.
I have seen too many protective innocent people go hog wild as soon they do not have that constant control over them. They don't have the tools they need to make good judgement calls. Give her instruction, guidance and she will be a much stronger Christian than someone that is protected and controlled.
I bet she is precious.

Why bring anything into your home? Computer? Radio? Books? These are the kinds of arguments that come from those without TVs who have it in their head the the cooking channels deteriorate into soft-core porn at night. Just doesn't happen.
There are certainly channels with objectionable material, but there are plenty without. Advertisers want to keep their audiences, so they gear their advertising to their target audience. It's not failsafe, but if you monitor what your kids watch as you should, it's a non-issue.

I wouldn't want someone to point a gun at me, because they might accidently pull the trigger. Even if they didn't, I would still be putting myself at risk by standing in front of it. That's why you shouldn't play with sin in your home. YOU might be able to control it, but what about your children?

This sounds good, but it fails to prove your point. There's quite a bit of difference between virus' and sin. A ilittle virus can harm the body, but a little sin will condemn a soul to hell.

Both can kill you.
You aren't seeing the principle of the illustration. Pray on it and you can understand. Parenting is one of the hardest but most rewarding responsibilties given to us.

I cant control someones finger on a trigger but I can control my finger on the remote. Sin is not a TV just like sin is not the gun. Yes there is sinful things on a TV and yes sinful things can be done with a gun but thats why you use wisdom.
As long as you maintain your life in balance, watching a TV is not a problem provided that it does not draw you away from God nor takes away opportunities to draw closer to God.
FYI-just incase you are unaware. They have codes where you can lock the channels you dont want your kids to watch.

You might think that you are presenting your case well, but this has all been said before. Books are easy to control. I simply buy what I want to read, and abstain from books that could be harmful to my walk with God. Computer? The only reasons I use it is for this forum, music and my wife uses facebook. Radio? I only listen to Christian stations.
Whether you choose to admit it or not, people remember more of what they see than what they hear. This is a known fact. The sad thing is, my co-worker who is a sinner, will admit that Hollywood pushes sin. She'll admit it, but no one on this forum will. That's just sad.

Re: Sinful Technology or Sinful Content?
We are very protective of what our children watch. I agree that even a few seconds of exposure to something graphic can be harmful to a small child's psyche. There are family friendly channels that don't EVER have graphic content of any kind. Those are the ones our children are allowed to freely access.
I don't believe in being over-protective, but we should be in control of what our children view and when, in direct proportion to their level of maturity. As a parent, I know when my child is ready to be educated in various areas, and I'm not going to allow a third person or media source to dictate that for me.
Bottom line--I think it's the content that matters, not the technology, but content DOES matter. Protecting your children (and yourself) from certain content is responsible and prudent.

Well, I hope you take those precautions, because a lot of "Christians" don't.

Does your child go to public school?
