Re: Mine Rescue

Im so glad they were all rescued safely, but on a side note I was curious about somethings...

The president and his wife there the whole time...political opportunist or caring leader?

Who turned this into a nationalistic pep rally? Is that just how they are there or was this again a political opportunity? It seemed to make this a little less than about those men and their families and a little more about a TV moment about a president and his Chile.

If it had happened here, would Barack and Michel be there to greet each miner? Would there be a cheering section shouting "U_S_A!"? Would the hard hats actually break out in a patriotic song as the last miner is delivered to safety?

From what I heard, he stepped out on a limb to put so much into the rescue, so he wanted to be there to support it all.

Mining is their big industry.
Of course this mine is broke so the government spent a lot in rescue.

No barak and michell wouldnt be there and he wouldnt be making conversation with the foreman that lasted 15 minutes if he was there either, or the speech later in two languages with no telepropmpter.PS It cost the country 22 million at last count and mining provides 40 percent of the COUNTRIES income!!The reason it collapsed they was it was grossly overmined.Shocking was the oldest man at 63 who had been doing it since he was 12!

Re: Mine Rescue

Too cool!

http://religion.blogs.cnn.com/2010/1...esus-t-shirts/

The story behind the Chilean miners' Jesus T-Shirts
As miners were being pulled from Chile's San Jose mine Wednesday, most were wearing tan T-shirts over their coveralls. The Chilean government told reporters the green coveralls were designed to help absorb the sweat as they ascended to the top.
