We don't. Jesus gets to us.

To be born of the Spirit is to experience a spiritual birth which happens at belief. The flow of the conversation is simple and clear.

Jesus: You must be born again.

Nicodemus: What? How can I go into my mother's womb and be born again.

Jesus: You don't understand. You must be born naturally AND spiritually. Humans give birth to humans. But the Spirit gives Spiritual life.

Romans 8. True...except a man have the Spirit of God, he is none of His.

Ephesians 1:13..."And when you believed in Christ, he identified you as his own by giving you the Holy Spirit, whom he promised long ago."

John 7:39..."When he said "living water," he was speaking of the Spirit, who would be given to everyone believing in him."

I John 4:15..."All who proclaim that Jesus is the Son of God have God living in them, and they live in God."

This was all covered extensively in the, "The Cross of Christ Alone Can Save" thread. It's a long thread but a good read. Pelathias and Jeffrey were brilliant in this thread.

To teach that one must speak in tongues to avoid eternal damnation is false doctrine.

To teach anything that would come close to leading someone down that road is false doctrine.

My days as an "Apostolic" are numbered-- if they haven't already expired.

You don't have to give up the title "Apostolic."
You can see here on this forum that many of us consider ourselves Apostolic and believe a person is saved without water baptism and Spirit baptism.
And standard Apostolic doctrine for years was that a person was saved at faith prior to and separate from water baptism and Spirit baptism.

The idea that "born of water" in John 3:5 is water baptism was not part of Apostolic doctrine for years. It is more recent. Where did it come from? According to Bro. Norris' chart on church history it came from the "Christian Church" --the folks some of us call Campbellites. Who else teaches that? Well, look in a Roman Catholic Bible that has study notes and you will see that John 3:5 according to their teaching says born of water means baptized with water.
