Well that depends. Are you talking "gay" in a homosexual way or in a "my parents drove me to the prom" way?

In this video, the basic "under $500" controller would suffice. When I was pricing far more fancier effects, is when I saw the cost really sky rocket.

For instance, part of the stuff being sold is an FM transmitter so you can broadcast the music to people's car stereo's as they drove by.

No! I don't need Youtube vides, I've looked videos until I am blue in the face. Many of them are just the same songs over and over again and I'm asking for fresh material.

You're right, your contribution isn't that upbeat. But it does have distinct down beats which would make it easier to sequence. I like it, I will keep it in mind.

I promise I won't hold that against you. But as I've been reminded, my word doesn't mean much. LOL

I've been looking at the whole Christmas light show thing myself this year but found that it is WAY too expensive to do the way I want to. 469.99 for a basic controller box (16 channel) and a hundred more for the software needed.
You didn't mention the brand but I am using Light O Rama. You can get a starter package of 16 channel controller plus software for $378 on their site. Light O Ramam holds a Chiristmas in July sale each year where they offer some significant price discounts.

If you are handy with a soldering iron you can save some money by buying their kits.

Hoovie, I think I might like you!

I will probably do Deck the Halls but it has been done quite a bit.

A lot more than doing it yourself of course. There are some indivduals out there who are giving away their sequences for free or are willing to do the sequence for you for a price. All you need to is get the hardware and lights and connect everything up.

When you say fancier effects, are you referring to dancing arches for example? That stuff is pretty easy to build (and cheap) if you are the least bit handy. I want to build 4 arches for my display this year.

I've already built 2 fans - I was surprised just how easy they were to make. I think each fan cost me about $5 in PVC and $2 for a U bolt. Throw in a few more dollars for some PVC cemet and cleaner plus 800 christmas lights and you've got a pretty fancy effect that can do quite a few neat things.

Check out http://doityourselfchristmas.com/ for ideas.

I bought my FM transmitter as a kit, cheaper that way. I use the FM transmitter year round to broadcast my favorite music without interruption throughtout the entire house and yard.
