Re: MSNBC Fires Keith Olberman!

I disagree with MSNBC's decision.

I believe FOX allows their employees to donate and participate as along as it does not affect the performance of their duties.

I don't like Olberman's style at all.

Still for him to be suspended because he gave his own money to a political candidate whose views he supported seems like his own rights are being infringed upon.

I see this as another assault on freedom, despite how it is dressed up.

As liberal as NBC is, they still have a policy (e.g., rule) that Olbermann violated:

"The fact that MSNBC's Keith Olbermann is a progressive liberal Democrat should come as no surprise to American news viewers. Nonetheless, NBC News policy, which also applies to MSNBC, clearly says that donating money to any candidate is a violation, as, "these activities jeopardize his or her standing as an impartial journalist because they may create the appearance of a conflict of interest."--Source

Sounds reasonable to me.

NBC has the right to put policies in place to protect the impartiality, perceived or otherwise, of its journalists and newscasters.

I don't think it is right for an employer like NBC to say that an employee may not donate money to a political candidate or party.

Re: MSNBC Fires Keith Olberman!

It's probably more due to the fact nobody watched his show.
Ratings matter and if they're under new owners they're probably cleaning house.
Good riddence, imo.

Whether it's right or not is really not the issue; if they had a pre-existing policy in place, and he was aware of it and violated it, that's on his head; not NBC.

Personally, I think companies whose goal is to act in the public interest (as journalists are, in reporting "unbiased facts") have good reason to put policies in place that protect their journalists' impartiality in the eyes of the public.

Obvious biases exist on every network, including FOX, and it has led to an overall distrust of the media. Some of these networks would do well to clean up their image and restore some lost trust in their reporting.

Re: MSNBC Fires Keith Olberman!

In my state, repubs took all three, gov, senate and house first time since early sixties, the gov is the first franco american gov. in history. Lived on the streets at 11 from a family of 18 children, very abusive home, graduated from college with masters after being taken in by two different families, probably the most conservative gov. in country.I cant wait til he starts taking an axe to this ridiculous spending. We arent know as the welfare capitol for nothing.

What does this have to do with the suspension of Keith Olbermann?

Usually it's a gradual drift, though. That post was cold turkey.
