Re: Iranian Pastor Sentenced to Death

Is this man your brother in Christ or not?

If he is not in the truth anyway, what's it to an Apostolic-- one less person leading other sincere souls to hell.
Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?
Or are you just looking for a fight?

Of course we should pray for this man, who are we to judge the sincerity of his heart?
What have you got against Apostolics anyway?

JD - I am not sure of what you are asking. If this man acknowledges Jesus Christ as Lord, then he is my brother, or we have common scriptural ground to that point. I have no knowledge of his doctrine, but since he is referred to as a Christian, I would assume that he had some form of biblical doctrine.
Would you regard him as your brother in Christ?

Nothing.

I know and you know that Apostolics only consider other Apostolics as saved.

Everyone else is deceived.

If you believe this man to be your brother, then we are on the same page.

However, the questions I am asking stem from what I know I have been taught and have heard first hand from other Apostolics.

If he has not repented of his sins, been baptized in water in the Name of Jesus Christ, and received the Holy Ghost with the evidence of speaking in tongues then he is not saved.

In fact, he might as well go and live a life of sin because his reward will be the same as theirs anyway-- you can be sincerely wrong and go to hell.

If you have not been exposed to teaching and preaching that follows this line of logic, then it is a blessing. However, much of my Apostolic experience has been with people who lead their fellows down this trail of, of stuff.

Re: Iranian Pastor Sentenced to Death

JD - I believe every religion believes something close to this, otherwise they would have no reason to exist.
It's not just Apostolics.
But, I personally leave some room for the possibility that I do not know as much as God does.
Do I believe that the Acts 2:38 message is true?
Yes.
However, I believe that many of our doctrines outside of this were developed by men, sincere men, and men who believed they were right.
For example. One step versus three step.
I am not a theologian, however, this argument drives me crazy.
Why? Because in my undeveloped mind, this is an argument about nothing.
Both sides say the same thing, just in a different way.
If one followed these doctrines to the end result, it would be the same, so what's the point.

Wow...you know what I know...you're good!
Now, put down that broad brush and no one will get hurt.

Re: Iranian Pastor Sentenced to Death

Gotcha.

Just trying to make sense of my continued attendance of my Apostolic church when it is clear to me that I can't stomach it any more.

I love you, but the bolded statement is wrong-- or could be for a lot of people.

You're right, that argument is fruitless and my line of reasoning this morning is more out of bitterness than honest yet sarcastic discourse.

I need to get help.

Re: Iranian Pastor Sentenced to Death

That's where we just have to agree to disagree!!!
I have read all of the one versus three arguments on the forum and listened to several in real life, and that is just my humble opinion!!!
Looks like you are troubled by some things JD.
Remember that all Apostolics, even UPCI and WPF versions are not the same.
Things vary greatly from church to church.
I have always been grateful that whereever I lived I have had a great church with a hunger for God, that I have been able to attend.
Just remember these churches are pastored by men and attended by human men and women.
