Re: Dancing: Ever acceptable outside Shockamoo?

Butl... but... *gasp* But carnal dancers might TOUCH someone of the opposite gender!!!

That's what I was told, anyway. I wondered when was the last dance they went to... I went to most of my high school dances in the late 80s and there was very little physical contact. A group of us were also told that we couldn't have a first dance at our weddings. We asked why not, since we'd be married to the person we were dancing with, and we were told to avoid the appearance of evil. HUH? I guess the idea was that some people would think we'd danced elsewhere or practiced ahead of time, and that would make people think badly of us.

I think dancing is fun. I'm not very good at it, and I do think there are limits to what is appropriate, but those limits should be left to individual discretion and depend on the situation.

I didn't see any of that for a for a long time. Then I started going to a new church. For awhile, I didn't notice what other people were doing during worship. Then one night I did. People's eyes would roll back in their heads and they'd shake and buck uncontrollably. There were some who did other things for show, but the way their eyes rolled back was weird. I don't know if they were in a trance or not. They said they didn't know what was going on around them, but they generally stopped when the music did, so they must have been aware of some things. That's the kind of dance I picture when someone talks about people dancing in the spirit being in trances, though.

Re: Dancing: Ever acceptable outside Shockamoo?

and for the record NO...I do not believe in worldly dances...it seems everything I say gets repeated in other circles in a different light...however those that know me well know I would not be promoting something ungodly...

Spontaneous expressions of joy are blessed. (You can be happy and still be holy)

Choreographed movement set to music is carnal
