Wedding rings

speaking of wedding rings......

My wife and I got married February 28, 1958.
I was 20. She was 16.
Her grandfather married us. He was a preacher with the Church of Jesus Christ.
We were married in her grandmother's living room or parlor. The room was only used on "special occasions." I think that was the only time I was ever in that room.

Pat's grandfather was old and almost blind. He had hand written out the words he was going to use for the ceremony. He had used a marker with black ink and written it out in large letters on 8 1/2 by 11 note book paper. Instead of standing at one end of the room we had to stand off to the side under a lamp because the light was better and he could see better over there.

We both had rings. Pat told him she wanted a double ring ceremony. He said he didn't have time for that but we could put them on afterward. He was scheduled to preach somewhere that night so after the brief ceremony, Pat's Dad took him to a storefront church and let him out of the car so he could preach. Then he took us to a local hotel and let us out so we could go in and spend a two night honeymoon. We didn't have a car. The hotel was in down town Cincinnati and not the nicest place to stay and some of the people in the lobby looked kinda scary.

We're still together after all these years with 5 kids, 13 grandkids, and 1 great grand child.

Several years ago I stopped wearing my wedding ring because I thought it might offend someone. The only person offended was my wife because I would not wear my wedding ring. A few weeks later I started wearing it again and I don't know if anyone even noticed when I quit wearing it or when I started wearing it again.
