Lo, I Come

And he had in his hand a little book open

My Lord mentions roughly forty books throughout the scriptures. The book of Amalek's curse, the book of Jehu, the book of the living, the book of David's body parts, the book cast into the Euphrates, and the book of life, to name a few.

And what foundational discovery in our youth: that every truth discussion forum, and every living room fellowship that turns to the Lord, and every meditation beneath a shade tree, is recorded in a book of remembrance...in heaven. How circumspect the walk and the talk of that man, who keeps this before him.

On the shelves of my Lord's library is the book of the wars of the Lord, the book of the visions of Iddo the seer, the book of the manner of the kingdom, the book of the purchase, and the book of Gad the seer.

Then there are those mysterious "books" that are opened alongside the book of life, at the great white throne judgment. Perhaps King David was correct when he said:

we spend our years as a tale that is told

Apparently my Lord is a meticulous bookkeeper. In scripture; a closed book has either not yet begun, or is over. A tale yet to be told, or a tale that is finished...book closed.

An open book then, would seem to suggest an ongoing story...a tale afoot. Such is the little book open, that John takes from the mighty angel's hand. If it was not the book of John's life before he ate it, it forever was afterward...for he ate it. And after he eats it, the angel hints at the writing upon it's pages:

thou must prophesy again before many peoples, and nations, and tongues, and kings

Those things written in books of heaven always trump free will or spiritual siege...because their powerful pages contain the very foreknowledge of God. Written words that become lives lived.

then said I, Lo, I come: in the volume of the book it is written of me, I delight to do thy will, O my God

John and the angel recline for a bit, while he eats the little book. Snacking, as it were, right in the big middle of massive death and destruction. Thus far this second woe has killed one-third of men. The little book tastes sweet as honey, but gives him terrible cramps. Much like Ezekiel's experience.

After his meal, the angel gives John a measuring reed. Again, this follows the pattern of Ezekiel's vision. Teetering at the threshold of the last trumpet, the angel stands...commanding John to also rise. Before the third woe signals an end of things, John is first to measure:

the temple of God
the altar
them that worship therein

It's not often that one gets to sit down and snack on a book. This, with a fire-footed mighty angel...who is clothed with a cloud, and crowned with a rainbow. What marvelous goings on are these.
