Apocrypha mentioned some good vocations that are able to offer decent returns comparable to many white collar jobs (requiring a college diploma). I personally recommend college if it’s in your budget though, if for nothing else, to develop those critical thinking skills.
I also agree with pelathais. You will need an advanced degree to remain economically viable in today’s society, especially if your inclination is towards psychology. In fact, think Ph.D. Terminating your education at the undergraduate level in a field like psychology or history is career abortion. It’s like my English professor said a long time ago when I asked what I could pursue with a B.A. in history. His reply, “you can pursue unemployment.” I did biz administration for my undergrad instead.
Personally, I find it ironic that “the preacher” was downplaying the field of psychology, especially since its researchers and experts have built the foundation for our current understanding of human behavior, certain medical treatments, beneficial drug therapies, ergonomics, relationship counseling, and by extension “Christian counseling.”
