In biblical times there were several different kinds of living arrangements. We read about:

• Monogamous Marriage – Marriage consisting of one man and one woman.
• Polygamous Marriage – Marriage consisting of one man and more than one woman.
• Concubines – Mistresses recognized within the marriage covenant.
• War Brides – Arranged marriage with female prisoners of war.
• Levirate Marriage – The marrying of a dead brother’s first wife, even if the living brother was already married.
• Servant Marriage – The arrangement of marriage between servants.

In modern culture you have the following institutions:

• Marriage – Marriage (also called matrimony or wedlock) is a social union or legal contract between people called spouses that creates kinship.
• Common Law Marriage - A marriage without a civil or ecclesiastical ceremony, generally resulting from an agreement to live together as husband and wife.
• Civil Union– A civil union is a legally recognized union similar to marriage..
• Domestic Partnership - A domestic partnership is a legal or interpersonal relationship between two individuals who live together and share a common domestic life but are neither joined by marriage nor a civil union. Many domestic partnerships have similar rights and benefits to marriage.

Are legal common law marriages, civil unions and registered domestic partnerships acceptable unions in the eyes of God???
