My point is that while the Scriptures are infallible... our interpretations and understandings of them are not. All too often, what the previous generations felt was absolute truth... was merely a flawed
interpretation of the truth. This is where the Holy Spirit must guide us into all truth.
For example, during the slavery debate many Bible believing pastors in the South felt that the Bible supported the practice of having slaves, which was the prevailing interpretation for generations. Many, more liberal, groups in the North, such as the Quakers, felt the Holy Spirit challenging them to see the Scriptures differently.

For nearly 2,000 years scholars favored the Trinitarian interpretation of Scripture. After the Holy Ghost outpourings of the late 1800's and early 1900's the Holy Spirit began to challenge pockets of believers to see the Scriptures differently.
