The Day God Saved My Life
Close to 20 years ago, before I was in Christ, I was riding in the back seat of my mom's car as she and my step-dad went up to Minnesota to begin sorting through my step-dad's parent's belonging, both of them having recently passed.
We were making our way up I94 toward Eau Claire then on to the Twin Cities then further north, where my step-dad grew up.
I was in the midst of my sin and depression, hating myself and the world. I had a portable cd player and some headphones with me and was listening to a band called Mudvayne (don't look them up!), laying down in the back of the car, unbuckled.
As the music played on, I entered into a very dark mood, almost to the point of feeling sick. All I could think of was opening the door and throwing myself out of the car at 80mph and ending it all.
Somewhere north of Wisconsin Dells, we stopped at a rest station. I got out and as I stepped onto the sidewalk, the youth pastor's wife from the UPCI Apostolic Pentecostal Church in my hometown was standing there, about to go into the rest station. I was completely shocked and surprised to see her. We talked for a few moments. She told me she was on her way to see family (either Alaska or Canada, I don't recall).
She went on her way and I on mine. When it was time to leave, I turned the portable cd off, put the headphones down, sat up in the backseat, buckled up and didn't think of killing myself the rest of the way.
God, in His omniscient timing, calculated our exact location and planned for me to run into this sister, whose husband did more to evangelize and win me to the Lord and to Truth than anyone else at that time in my life, so that, in the presence of the Holy Spirit within her, God could temporarily deliver me from my demons (perhaps she and her family prayed for me???), so He could save me from committing suicide on the way to Minnesota.
