You know - I like DB too. I don't think HE takes himself as seriously as others do. He has always been kind to me. I just disagree on his Theology.
I think it is highly dangerous to allow one, two, three or a small group of men to define your entire belief system.
It has been said by many and alluded to on this forum. The UPC and the present "Apostolic" movement is an evolving movement. As much as you want to prove that WE HAVE NOT CHANGED - You have!
You have changed since 1914. You have changed since 1945. You have changed since the 60's and you have changed since 2006! We all change. When I hear these men get up and say - I HAVE NOT CHANGED - I laugh! It is simply NOT TRUE! You can say it over and over again and try to make yourself believe it - but we all know - YOU HAVE CHANGED!
We all change.
Some used to preach against the Radio - I heard someone - Phil White or Larry Booker or one of those PSR guys preach against RADIO at a PSR conf.
Some used to preach again wearing your hair down - now they let their grand children wear their hair down.
Some preached again blush - now their teens use it.
Some preached again MIXED bathing - until they took their teens to the beach.
Some preached against TV - till they got in the hotel.
Some preached against colored shirts and wearing red - now they wear it.
Can YOU think of something that you used to PREACH AGAINST and now you allow it? Can you think of anything that you saw as SIN and had it as a standard and now - it it not? You have Changed!
I heard Bishop Tenney preach once at BOTT - On the GRANDFATHER CLAUSE!
We ALL change and sometimes - Change is good!
I HAVE CHANGED and I am GLAD ABOUT IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
