Passover

About half a century ago I obtained some teaching material called the Oneness Pentecostal Correspondence Course. It was 2 volumes of mimeographed pages and consisted of 250 lessons. It was based on material presented at Northwest Bible Training School under the direction of Pastor E. Rohn in Caldwell, Idaho. It was not dated, but based on some of the material in it, it had to have been published just before the beginning of World War 2. I think at one time it was required reading for those who were applying for a ministerial license with the United Pentecostal Church but had not gone to Bible College. Since this is Passover season, I thought I’d post this.

Here is a summary of lessons 57-59, Exodus 11-15

1. The Lord changes their calendar
The month of Abib in which the first Passover took place became the first month of their calendar. Israel began as a nation, just as we begin to live in God's sight when we come to the Lord. 1 Cor. 5:7

2. Faith proven by actions. Just believing in their heads would not have delivered them from death. They had to act upon the Word. James 2:17-20

3. A lamb died as a substitute for their firstborn. The lamb had to be without blemish. Christ, the Lamb of God has died in our place and bore the punishment we deserve. Rom 6:23; John 1:29; 1 Peter 1:18-19

4. Lamb kept 4 days, Jesus was foreordained before the foundation of the world but manifest in the last days for us 1 Peter 1:20. He is the Lamb of God John 1:29 who was slain before the foundation of the world Rev 13:8

5. Blood applied to sides and top of door in the symbol of a cross but not on the threshold, not to be trampled underfoot Heb 10:29. Only the blood, no good works or good intentions saved them. One way for all. The blood is applied to your heart through repentance and faith toward God Rom 3:24-25

6. Lamb must be roasted and eaten. Jesus suffered the fire of God's wrath. The blood applied to the door posts delivered them from death but they received strength for the journey by eating the flesh. Jesus' blood was shed for our deliverance from the second death and His body was broken for our healing Isa 53:5

7. No bone of the lamb broken. Psalm 34:20 prophesied that no bones would be broken in the Lamb of God and that was fulfilled in John 19:32-36

8. Let nothing remain until morning. Anything not eaten had to be burned with fire. It was not allowed to decay. This was also applied to Jesus in Psalm 16:9-10, Acts 2:31

9. All leaven was to be put away. Leaven is a type of sin. We are only delivered from the penalty of sin but also its power. We are saved from sin, not in sin Matthew 1:21, 1 Cor 5:8

10. They were to be dressed with shoes on their feet and ready to go as we are to be ready to go to be with Jesus at any moment when He calls us either in death or in the rapture

11. This became a memorial for future generations as the Lord's supper is now observed by Christians 1 Cor 11:23-26

12. A great cry arose among the Egyptians but it was too late for them to do anything. Prov 1:24-29, Rev 6:15-17

13. A mixed multitude went with them. this group later caused problems. In each of our assemblies we have those who have not fully submitted to the Lord Num 4:11

14. Modernism refuted. the only thing that saved them was the death of the lamb and the application of the blood

15. Restorationism refuted, just because a lamb died did not guarantee deliverance. The blood had to be applied

16. When they left, they had to go God's way. They were led by the pillar of cloud by day and pillar of cloud by night. We must be led by God's Spirit Rom 8:14 and walk in His light. His light is darkness to others.
